I don't know they it came in a customized les paul studio
Instrument
:
What model guitar or bass did you install this in? Les Paul Studio
What position is it in? both
What pickup are you replacing? ??? bought the guitar 2nd hand
Other pickups installed on the instrument? ???
Any artists using this pickup? Al DeMiola
Reason for changing the pickup? non I was thinking these would be more than I would need and was thingking of replacing this with p90's or 57's possibley filtorns going for gretsch sound but I have not yet I have mixed feeling about these Pup's
Sound
:
9
What's the output level like? Higher then Brittney Spears...Seriously. My past experience with humbuckers has super 58's in an '86 as-80 (wish I would have kept that) since I have only been playing single coils p-90's and fender style. Both are great but out put is proportional to volume=simple...these Pup's really pour it one...out put is so high that they tend feed back more than even a hollow body.
What amps and effects are you using it with? Running then through a '93 blues deville 4x10 sounds great use via a RAT
Tone - Bassy, middy, muddy, trebly, balanced? Muddy/Middy to trebely
What style of music do you play? I play a very 80's based music very much like the cure, echo and the bunneymen, REM, Ride, Paul Westeburg...ect...so based on reputation I would have said no...personal experience I say yes, better than I could have ever imagined
Is this a good match? This is something I would not choose base on its reputation for being a rocker, I have alwasy been drawn to vinatge stuff...but this has totally beefed up my leads and now, it's like...I see how you get that harmonic sqeals and dynamics. Aside from the brutal feed back it is pretty darn good.
Bridge sounds good I really like it, can totally got from middy to trebley...however I am not sure it is the best for a neck position very muddy can't get a good jazz tone. Sounds good with both on
For which positions is this pickup (un)suitable? definately the bridge

I would use this in a bridge positon for sure...I have been playing for 25yrs (geese you think I would be better) I really like the full distorted radio head like sound i can get from these. Not bad clean...they do however feed the hell back worse than when I played a dot with fat bastards...it's bad...and they can be difficult live...I can't control them so as well... definately satsified, however it may not be the best match for the type of music I play...I am keeping them for the now anyway. I would receomend to any one looking for out put they are loud!

Humbucker. 4 Wire. Specs escape me at the moment. Besides, I grade pickups with my ears!
Instrument
:
Installed in various guitars, last one was a Stratocaster I overhauled. This is my standard bridge humbucker, regardless of instrument type. Generally wired with three position coil tap switch (series, parallel, single). Typically used with Dimarzio PAF Pro for the neck pickup.
Sound
:
10
Strong bridge pickup - cuts through the mix. Cleans up nicely when volume is rolled back and provides full, balanced tone when used with an overdriven tube amp. Very easy to develop controlled feedback. Adding coil cut and parallel wiring enables a broad tone pallette that compliments everything from metal to blues to classic rock. With the 3 D's (Distortion, Delay and Dimarzio) it makes a ripping pickup for slide work. Rolling back on the tone control slightly takes off a little edge but it doesn't get muddy.

This pickup is part of my signature tone. Always keep a spare on the shelf just in case it goes out of production or I build a new guitar.
If you are looking for an aftermarket pickup, this is an excellent choice for the bridge position. It's not the hottest but provides rich tone and good sustain.
Playing since 1976. Also do guitar repairs (specifically wiring and electronics). Typical setup is guitar into Boss TU-2 into Ibanez Tube Screamer into Tube Amp. Tube screamer is set as a clean boost. Other effects? Yes, but I'm not telling.

Installed in the bridge of a Fender Standard Fat Strat. Replaced the stock humbucker.

I play alot of metal/hard rock, through a Marshall G50R combo, and a Hughes&Kettner Warp 7. I was expecting alot more than what I got. I couldn't tell that much difference from the stock humbucker that I replaced. I use a Rocktron Booster and a Digitech Grunge pedal, and with the booster it sounds good, but without it, it doesn't seem to have any punch at all. It has a good clean sound, but without a boost pedal, it has no balls.

I've been playing for about 10 years, I own a Warwick bass and a Fender Fat Strat. I think if I had to replace it, I would buy an EMG or something with some balls. I guess it depends on what style you play and what sound you are going for, but for me, it just isn't heavy enough. I have yet to try it through a tube amp, maybe that is what you have to do to get heavy from this humbucker.

High output, high impedance passive humbucking. 13.68 DC resistance. 425 millivolts output. 4 conductor wiring.
Instrument

I put this super distortion in the bridge position of a B.C. Rich ST-3. The stock bridge pickup was probably a DiMarzio PAF pro. It didn't say on the bottom. It just said it was a DiMarzio. The resistance when measured was the same as a PAF pro's. The other pickups were DiMarzio singles. I went ahead and left them out as I seldom use middle or neck pickups. I may put them back in later. One of my favorite artists is Lita Ford. I love her tone. Especially on her early solo albums. She has said that she uses these pickups too. I think Tom Scholz of Boston does also. I changed the stock pickup because it wasn't giving me enough crunch, sustain, bass, and drive, etc. This pickup solved the problem. It's loud and crunchy. And it really sustains for the solos. I wired it with a 500K CTS volume pot only. This is probably my favorite circuit.
Sound
:

The output is high. I love it. It's a very fat sounding pickup. It's also great for lead guitar solos. It sounds wonderful through tube amps. It's a very even tone. In my opinion this pickup sounds better played through a hot amp than a medium output pickup played through a overdrive/distortion pedal and then into a medium output amp. It's a purer sound. It's probably the best rock pickup ever made.

Yes I would buy it again. I've been playing electric guitar for 20 years. My first guitar a Dean came stock with this pickup. I own 6 electric guitars. 3 Marshall amps, including a TSL60, a 2203X and a solid state Lead 12 microstack from 1986. I don't dislike anything about this pickup. I chose this because I have owned it before and because a lot of my favorite artists have made great recordings with it. This pickup has THE sound I've been looking for. I hope DiMarzio never stops making it. The 'F' spacing fits my B.C. Rich/Takeuchi Floyd Rose tremolo just right.

I'd buy it again. Made my Epi Les Paul sound like the real deal.
Musicians friend originally wanted $69.95 PLUS $7.95 shipping.
I found the same pickup on Sameday music for $59.00 and FREE shipping. So I called MF, and told them. They sold it to me for
$59, FREE shipping. They have a lowest price guarantee, so before
buying anything from MF, be sure to shop around first.

:
Model of guitar or bass: Mid 80s Charvel Model 1
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Jackson J-90
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: Ace Frehley, Vinnie Moore, Paul Gilbert
You musical style(s): Metal, classic rock
Reason for pickup change: Had a short in the wiring of the old pickup and decided to upgrade.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Fairly hot
Tone: Trebly but with a decent mid-range crunch
Sonic evaluation: The Charvel runs through a Boss chorus and a Digitech Hot Head or Death Metal distortion to a Laney Pro Tube 50 head and Marshall cab. Very good treble response. Leads really sing with good sustain. For rhythm playing it gets a pretty good mid-range crunch...very retro sounding. Perfect for 70s/80s metal. I can see why these were so popular at one time.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Metal/classic rock

Comments: I've played for over 20 years. Very good pickup for the money. I would definitely buy it again and am thinking of dropping one in my Charvel dinky reverse as well.

Model of guitar or bass: washburn dime333 dimebolt
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: stock washburn pickups (lame ass shit)
Other pickups on guitar: stock washburn
Artists using this pickup: paul gilbert, ace frehley, i think dimebag also used it sometime before
You musical style(s): rock n' roll/hard rock, trash/power metal, 80's rock, prog
Reason for pickup change: old pickup didn't scream, had no bite at all. i was looking for that aggresive punch
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: it is hot but not over the top hot, it lacks some trebly scream but has powerful bass
Tone: lots of bass, steady mid, balanced highs
Sonic evaluation:
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: for me this is definitely a kick ass pickup for thrash metal ala iced earth (bassy rhythms) it is a rock n roll pickup, it is a good rhythm pickup for those "chugging" distorted palm mutes

Comments: if it were stolen i would probably buy another one, i've been playing for 12 years and i am quite satisfied with the performance of this pickup.. it has a character of its own (bass and mid)but i was hoping for a pickup that had more treble, more bite/scream. but it is a smooth pickup to use. its quite hard to control though because it has lots of feedback compared to other pickups. but you'll get used to it after some time and know how to harness its power.

Comments: well...its like 2 weeks later...this pick gives so much feedback, i was forced to buy a noise supressor about a week ago. and the noise supressor hardly does all justice. this pickup is great, but just too "yellow" for that guitar. but i cant take it out because theres just not enough slack left on it for it to be put on another axe...screw it, i want my sound back. too much feedback, no more growl. otherwise...it has tons of output, great pickup.

Other pickups on guitar: seymour duncan jazz
Artists using this pickup: dave murray, adrian smith
You musical style(s): shred, metal, blues (not with this guitar)
Reason for pickup change: i bought this a while back for a strat i was customizing, and i came along a EMGDG20 at guitar center and bought that, so i didnt really have a use for this pickup, seeing how i already had 2 good bridge pickups in my other two axes. but i figured "why let this go to waste!?" and put it in my bc rich...
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: i could tell immediately that it had more output than my SD. but...i guess i kinda miss having clarity. (i only put it in last night)
Tone: didnt have as much clarity as my SD. had less bass, and more midrange. and maybe about...10% more highend. so...it wasnt as warm or "growly" as im used to.
Sonic evaluation: bc rich>dod fx100>modded boss ds-1>vintage MXR distortion+>dod stereo chorus (vintage)>rock amp studio lead>dod eq in effects loop, with mids dropped one notch, and highs raised one, lows full on>crate black voodoo cab. the sound i usually have with my sd is a megadeth (countdown to extinction to a t!) and iron maiden (powerslave). with this, ive had to lower highs, and slightly boost the lows on my amp. i usually only have them halfway on. now theyre a quarter til. not so much of a hassle. Very loud! adds so much feedback! i had the volume turned all the way off on my guitar, and still got feedback! i admit, its alittle strange, but not enough for me ot knock this pickup. harmonics are more noticable and easier to access. leads do stand out a bit, but my signature sound is gone...for now. im going to try to regain it, but it looks like its gonna take a bit of time. im gigging on tuesday, so thats when ill see how this thing really handles.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: does shred, and metal. cant handle blues too well. well...i take that back...with just my dodfx100 on, i can obtain some rather nice blues tones. i know blues, trust me. nothin but blues from the heart, i enjoy this pickup for that style.

Comments: i would buy another. wish it had more "growl." thats what made people love my sound so much...but i think this might do some justice. if i dont like it on tuesday, its coming out. thing is, theres only about...maybe 6 inches left of slack on the wires. for some reason, about a foot disappeared. or maybe it came that way, i dont know. so...great pickup so far...i guess ill put a catcher-upper when i get back on wednesday.

Comments: If it were destroyed - I'd cry :(. If it were stolen - I'd catch the thief and kill him. I love everything in this pickup - magnificent//perfect :]. I compared it with EMG81 and I think the dp-100 's better 'cause it doesn't have this hm... a bit electric sound that EMG has - superdist. is hm... more oldschool like ? yup :]
I got MY sound with this pickup and I love it - wouldn't change it for anything.
