Pickup features: Late 70's Highoutput Passive Humbucker
Impedence or other specs:
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Westbury Deluxe (somewhat like a double cutaway Les Paul)
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: na
Other pickups on guitar: regular Super Distortion Humbucker at neck
Artists using this pickup: Kiss. My guitar really rates the SDHB too -- and he knows his onions
You musical style(s): Blues, blues-rock, classic rock, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Clapton blues, Freddie King
Reason for pickup change: Came as standard equipment
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot. Mini phase toggle switch offers a slightly lower output, cleaner sound
Tone: Treble - good (plently). Mid - good (Les Paul like). bass -good.
Sonic evaluation: Very versatile. Using Marshall G15RCD solid state practice amp. Trace Elliot Velocette 20W vintage-style tube amp. This pick up is strong and warm but turning the volume down (or gain on the amp) will give up the blues. More powerful than standard Les Paul pick-ups - less refined though. Forte would be classic rock to hard rock though -- could also handle 80's metal very easily (but who would want to repeat that era?!).
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues. Blues rock. Classic rock. You could play anything from Jazz to thrash metal on these babies.
Overall Rating

Comments: Yes I would buy these again -- and I believe they are very affordable when on sale and positively cheap second-hand. I have had them since the late 70's and have always been perfectly happy with them. Everybody that play's my guitar falls in love with it. That said, I would also like to try the Lindy Fralin humbuckers -- but probably in a Les Paul not this guitar which seems perfectly balanced/"in harmony".
