:
Model of guitar or bass: epiphone firebird vii

Pickup being replaced: factory minihumbucker
Other pickups on guitar: 2 x dimarzio dp-168
Artists using this pickup: unknown
You musical style(s): hard rock, heavy metal, alternative
Reason for pickup change: The factory minihumbucker pickup was not versatile enough.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: its hotter than a normal mini humbucker
Tone: more output than dp-168, right for bridge position
Sonic evaluation: Clean it played very well. Destorted was also nice, could play 80's style heavy metal with this pickup but just didnt seem to have enough bass to play nu-metal or harder music. I just wanted a bridge pickup with more power than middle and neck position.
Overall Rating
:
No Opinion
I love this pickup because it was exactly what I was looking for.

Pickup features: passive humbucking
Impedence or other specs: 13 kohms, output 240 mv, from website
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: prs se soapbar
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: factory single coil soapbar
Other pickups on guitar: dimarzio p-90 tone zone
Artists using this pickup: unknown
You musical style(s): hard rock, heavy metal, alternative
Reason for pickup change: The factory single coil was not hum cancelling by itself only when selected with the bridge single coil. Also the original pickup was not versatile enough. It was only good for like old school rock and maybe punk. When the coil was played clean it was not impressive just mediocure.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: its hotter than a normal mini humbucker but its not harsh and cleans up very well
Tone: its a little trebly and may not have as much bass as i would like
Sonic evaluation: I've only played it with a marshall lead 21 practice amp, but i was surprised at the tones I got. Clean it played very well. not too bright but just right, very jazz friendly. The tone was fairly balanced. I also got some Fenderish tones, but you would probably have to split the coils to really mimic a Fender Tele or something like that. Destorted was also nice, could play 80's style heavy metal with this pickup but just didnt seem to have enough bass to play nu-metal or harder music, but thats okay thats what I use the bridge pickup for anyway. I just wanted a neck pickup that would play clean but had enough power to compliment the tone zone in the bridge
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play hard rock to heavy metal to alternative stuff. Its perfect for the neck for the bridge it might be okay if you were looking for a sound in between a single coil and a full humbucker

Comments: If it was destroyed I would cry, if it were stolen I would search the four corner's of the earth for it and pray i didnt find it in the hands of the dirtbag who stole it. Sure i would buy it again I did it the first time unless Dimarzio wanted to sponsor me. I've only been playing for four years. I love this pickup because it was exactly what I was looking for. A single coil is too bright and not humcancelling and a full humbucker in the neck seems too muddy for me. what I hate is the mounting screws are not the same size that the ones gibson uses in a les pual deluxe but they are the same size as a full humbucker, so I couldnt use the mounting bar or similar ones that gibson uses in the deluxe's. It took some modifying to get this sucker in and alot of praying to god I woundnt over drill the holes in the body to install them directly to the guitar body. I wish dimarzio sold a mounting bar so you could mount it to any guitar you wanted. I also like that it doesnt have any pole screws cause you can adjust it as close to the strings as you like. The crome cover looks pretty cool on a black guitar if your into looks.
