Output is VERY hot. I've never heard any single coil pickup with this much output. It's as loud as a Duncan JB humbucker, perhaps a little louder!
Using Carvin and Peavey tube amps.
Very aggressive tone! The sound is fairly balanced with a crunchy top end. The overall clarity suffers from too many windings though. Specs say alnico magnets but it sounds like ceramic. It's not as classy as the Gibson. The noise is bad, worse than a strat. On very high gain settings the 60 cycle hum combines with your notes and you'll sound like you're playing through a ring modulator, horrible. I'll have to either purchase a noise supressor, or limit the Jr to rhythm duties and lower gain leads. Grounding the control cavity may help. That said, I've been able to coax some good sounds out of it, Rick Nielson Cheap Trick rhythms and some very passable sounding 'Black Magic Woman' leads.
This P-90 is too aggressive for vintage fanatics, yet the tone may be too traditional for high-precision metal playing. It'a a perfect match for traditional hard rock and classic punk.
Would not recommend for neck position.

If the pickup died, I would go for a Duncan stacked P-90 to eliminate noise.
I've been playing on and off for 19 yrs and I have a 2001 Gibson Les Paul Classic with 498T and 500T pickups, and an '80s Japanese Telecaster.
I like the high output and cheap price, I hate the noise.
It's not as subtle as the Gibby. I'm pretty sure this pickup is made in China. I needed a cheap replacement quick. It's kind of strange that I was able to sell the dead Gibson p'up for more than twice what I paid for this working new one.
I wish it had a better clean sound.
Never completely satisfied.
