Features
:
Single coil sized humbucker (passive) approx 12K resistance (hot)
Instrument
:
I put this Dragonfire hot rails in a MIM strat 1997 bridge position.
It is replaceing a Fender Tex Mex bridge, I wanted more OUTPUT than the tex mex gave. The neck and mid are tex mex pickups.
Sound
:

The output level is just what I was expecting, 12 K of Hot humbucker tone! Im playing it through a Fender Stage 100 with 1x12 Celestion, and a Marshall 2x10 with Celestions. I use a Seymour Duncan Pickup booster, a digitech tone driver and digitech Metal Master.
The pickup is well balanced but like another user had said " It is mid rangy (but VERY GOOD) not muddy at all, but excellent low end response, good clean bright, but not as quite as articulate as a Seymour Duncan Hot rails. NOTE: The Seymour Duncan Hot Rails is approx 75.98 roughly. The Dragonfire is under 20.00 and its nearly the same! VERY VERY CLOSE! I rate a Dragonfire at 9 and a SD at a 10
but bang for your buck, I'll buy 3 dragonfires before I buy another SD.
I play 60s to 90s Rock n Roll, Hard Rock, Country and Metal.

I would buy this again and again and again!!! I am considering arming my third strat with one of these. I have been playing for 12 years. I own a custom made Warmoth Strat, 2 MIM strats w/ upgraded electronics. A Squier Jagmaster with SJK-11s that have the same specs as a set of Dragonfire Humbuckers that sell for 25.00 for a set of neck and bridge! 8.4 K neck 16.9 K bridge. I love the sound and the value of the Dragonfire hot rails! Im glad that an Amazing upgrade is available at an average Joe's price. Save over 50.00 with a dragonfire over a duncan! on this pickup!
Note: that it is a bit of a tight fit in a single coil spot, however it fits in once you get it through, the holes are not perfectly aligned with a standard pickguard, but they are darn close! No issues with mounting or overall fit and finish afterwards!
Only thing I wish it came with were some mounting screws and springs or cut surgical tubing as found on most modern fender pickups.
Bottom line I LOVE THIS PICKUP! IT exceeded my expectatations, do yourself a favor and save ALOT OF MONEY! over an SD ! I plan on buying more Dragonfire products!!!!!!!

Installed in a Squire '51 with a Duncan Designed 102 in the bridge. Took out the neck single coil b/c I love silent pickups!! Original pickup was ok, just wanted a stronger and quieter pickup.

Strong output, but not super hot. Used with several tube combos, PV, Fender and a Peavey XXX half stack, sounder great through all amps. Rock, blues, country, alternative, works good for all styles. Great pickup for $20, just as good as the Duncan Hotrails!! I should know, I own them both and see/hear no difference. I'm installing a pair of zebra distortion Dragonfire's in my Peavey Generation Tele. Look for my review soon!

If you stole a $200 guitar with a $2 pickup in it, your a fool. That's what I love about low/mid priced instruments and quality/low cost replacement pickups; you steal them, I kill you then buy another bargin!! Great buy from a 40yr old that's been playing and customizing for 20+ years. Pay more if you like, it's not necessary!

I'm a 35 year player, can't go wrong with these....Inexpensive pickups (these days) are not to be overlooked! It is easy to make a VERY GOOD pickup and keep cost LOW.....Bottom line fellow players, Dimarzio and SD used to be the only aftermarket stuff to buy, thats a thing of the past and so is their price......

I put this in the bridge position of a MIM strat. I put a variable coil tap on it, and a phase-switch. I wanted a little more punch that the stock bridge pickup offered.

I find the tone of this pickup to be very mid-rangy (if that is a word). It isn't as hot as i was expecting after reading some other reviews, but I was suprised at the mids. It distorts well, but doesn't have much high end chime to it. I'm not really sure if it was an improvement over the MIM single coil or not, but I got a quiet humbucker anyway.

I'm not sure if I would replace it if stolen. I haven't regretted buying it, but I'm still finding myself fiddling with knobs trying to find the perfect sound out of it...

Humbucker in a Strat size. 11+ Ohms, hot but not harsh. 4 wires so you can split it if you like...I chose to wire it 2 wire.
Instrument
:
Dropped this in the bridge slot of a late 80's Japanese Squier with Fender system 1 trem (killer guitar for the price). Wanted a humbucker in the bridge so I could take one do everything guitar out to jam, but I didn't have the heart to route this nice little guitar. Mission accomplished.

Powerful but not over powering humbucker. Hey, it's not a 1959 PAF but I was very surprised how this pickup pulls off the humbucker tone. Does the distorted humbucker sound great. Just played it for 1/2 hour and traded off between my 1981 Gibson Les Paul Heritage 80 with factory Shaw Humbuckers and the Dragonfire did not disapoint when played distorted. If you want a humbucker in your Strats bridge slot but like me, don't have the heart to carve up your guitar, this Dragonfire hot rail is an excellent choice.

At $19.95 this has to be considered one of the best values in a quality pickup. 4 wires, high output, solid construction including copper shielding. The one warning is, it's very tight in your pickguard. Mine was so snug it pulled back a lot of the black covering on the pickup...no big deal with the copper shielding serving to protect the coils. I rolled the dice on this one, I figgured I'd have to try a bunch of pickups before I was happy, so I started with one of the cheaper ones first...whadd'ya know, the search is over. I love this pickup.

Pickup features: This pickup is a passive humbucker which fits into a strat single coil cavity.
Impedence or other specs:
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: '93 MIM Strat
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: stock single coil
Other pickups on guitar: stock
Artists using this pickup: Me.
You musical style(s): rock, blues, indie
Reason for pickup change: i wanted a full humbucking tone in the neck position in my strat and i was leaning towards the seymour duncan lil' 59, which is basically a gibson '59 humbucker which fits in a single coil cavity as well. i saw this one in town, and decided to buy it.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: this pickup is way hotter than my stock single coils! i used to always associate "hot" pickups with uber-distorted metal tone (which i can't stand in any way, shape or form,) but i love every aspect of these guys.
Tone: very bassy when located in neck position, more lame in bridge slot
Sonic evaluation: i play my strat through an early seventies Peavey classic with a big muff Pi. it sounds so much bluesier than my expextations, though this may be caused by my amp( i highly recommend hunting one down) either way, i love it!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: this pickup rocks for blues in the neck position, or it would be well-suited for butt rock or hair metal in the bridge position, i guess,

Comments: one thing- this pickup really doesn't look incredibly high-quality, but as i mentioned before, it sounds incredible. great pickup-great value.
