Features :
One of the early pickup's that EMG released. Dont know the spec's

Instrument :
Mine is in a 1986 original Charvel strat with a Kahler tremolo

Sound : 9
I like the tone a lot, Ive used it for 22 years and now have 2 guitars with 81/85 in them. Its similar to the 85 but a little smother,Ive not had any issues with noise as they claimed was the reason they discontinued it. Its definitely for rhythm and not as good as the 81 in the solo department but it does sound very good. It gets a 9 cause its a great pickup for what its intended for.

Overall Rating : 9
At the time I bought it, it was EMG's best pickup and it hasn't let me down. If it were ripped from my Charvel I think I'm ready to try Blackouts but would certainly use almost any EMG pickup as a replacement.

I am not sure who uses this pickup.
Stock pickups not capable of delivering the tones "I" want to hear.

Sound : 10
Out put level is much like a P-90. Only much clearer and more refined. Also no noise when being used at massive gain levels.
I use a Tech 21 Trademark 300 Head. I plug the head directly into a 4-12 cabinet loaded with Peavey Black Widow Speakers. I also use the line out which feeds a Peavey M-3000 power amp that feeds another 4-12 cabinet loaded with Black Widows. I have a Peavey Kosmos and an Alto EQ in my rack which are the only effects I use when needed to add some tonal variety.
The tone of this pickup is very much like a P-90. It is capable of delivering excellent blues, bluesrock, classicrock and metal tones with no problems.

Overall Rating : 10
If this pickup were lost or stolen I would immediately order another set.
I would like to add that I am a self taught guitarist. I do not use or play equipment that most musicians would consider the "norm". I play metal with an open minor tuning with flatwound strings. All I can say to anyone out there is you have to find and do what works for you as an individual. Any music store I go into and ask about an amplifier they always ask what type of music do you play I say metal so they bring me over to the Marshall section. Marshalls don't work for "me". Understand?
