This is regarding a mod available are easily made for this combo giving them 24 volts instead of 9 volts. It consists of a two 12 volt batteries for camera, a small plastic casing, both found at any battery store? Radio Shack and a 9 volt plug in adapter (the part where you plug your 9 volt battery in to which hangs from you battery compartment). I ordered mine on-line, but the guy stopped selling them. Directions on how to build are easily Goggled.

This is my first set of EMG's, I typically play Bare Knuckles and have always wanted this 81.85 combo. I got a smoking deal ($145) Dean Razorback V2555, brand new as it was mis-marked at GC. They honored the price. Many artist's use this combination, the list is endless. My friend found this mod online and picked one up for me as it was $10, including the builders profit!

First off, the 81/85 combo hit me right in the chest. Not the head, but the chest is where I felt the punch and liked it... a lot. So I told my friend I liked this combo as this is all he plays in multiple guitars. He mentioned the mod and said they are engineered (the PU's) to handle up to 27 volts. I like to play metal and sometimes my PRS, although equipped with a Bare Knuckle Miracle Man is awesome, I wanted more raw power, and had to go active.
So I get the mod in the mail, install the two 12 volts and plug the adapter, flipped in reverse to go into the plug from my guitar and BAMMM! It about gave me a concussion! It will drive any amp to it's max and the note articulation is incredible even at high gain!!!!! A must have for any EMG 81/85 player. There have been 18volt mods out there, but this one is 24 and for real. It will make these things scream bloody murder and they retain the noiseless feature as well! Now it feels like a punch to the chest from Tyson in his heyday.

I've been playing 21 years and mostly play classic rock and metal. I own to many guitars to name, but this Razorback is my favorite now. I am going to reverse engineer the mod as it has to be insanely easy to rebuild a back-up. If it was stolen, I would cry, then go to The Battery Store and Radio Shack and build a new one.
It makes the EMG 81/85 combo IN-*****-SANE!!!!!
