Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Jazz / Funk ala Holdsworth, Henderson, and Metheny
Reason for pickup change: Through body neck seems to boost lower mids in the same place they are strong in the model 60 which caused a bit of muddiness.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: same as a typical passive humbucker but less than an EMG humbucker
Tone: EXTREAMLY ARTICULATE and almost HI-fi.
Sonic evaluation: Carvin TL60 hardtail into a Ibanez tube king into a RP7 into a Hot Rod Deville 4X10 or Deluxe 1X12.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play music for a living so I have to play all styles but shread jazz in the style of Tribal Tech is what I really spend most my efforts on. This pickup is great if your technique is flawless and you play very quickly with a light touch. If you hit the strings like a hammer this pickup will quickly show your shortcomings.

Comments: I have always loved the EMG SA as a neck pickup so I decided to try the H, which is just a S in a humbucking shell, when I realized that the 60 was just to thick in a through body guitar. The H has made me really love my Carvin. It is truly a great pickup which overdrives somewhat jagged (e.g. SRV) as opposed to smoothly like most EMG pickups. This is cool if you do the power trio kind of thing because chords can still be played without sounding like a wall of mush. My trio THE CHARLES CAREY TRIO has just finished a new CD and this pickup was used in parts. Email me if you are interested in getting a copy.
