Product: ElectroKraft Tele Neck
Price Paid: US $40 - 50

Email: blues_dlx<at>hotmail dot com

Features :
Pickup features: single coil, custom hot wound, wax dipped, lonnnnnng vintage leads - thanks I needed that, read on ....
Impedence or other specs: 8.0K

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: 1998 Mexican Fender Nashville Tele Deluxe, with aftermarket mods
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Fender Tex-Mex
Other pickups on guitar: ElectroKraft custom wound Strat middle, original Tex-Mex bridge
Artists using this pickup: Larry Crane: new band, John Mellencamp's guitarist; all Area51guitars.com artists
You musical style(s): Blues, but really cranked, with massive & maximum effort
Reason for pickup change: Who would want an original clanky pickup? Not enough "fullnes", thin & tinny ... made every amp sound like a practice or beginner's 15W (no offense) but the Tex-Mex neck pup was cheap, entry-level sounding, and worse: unwanted noise, hum & distortion. Do I need to make a DISCLAIMER here? I'm only responsible for my own opinion.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Full response, warmer, hotter, punchy
Tone: Completely clean and I would venture to say, near-noiseless if not noiseless. Allows best articulation of individual notes, and clean, non-jumbled chords. I'd call it a pseudo humbucker, ran it through the sound level meter and "ternimated" some of those expensive guitars with humbuckers.
Sonic evaluation: I'm referring to my alder-bodied, 3 pickup MIM Tele, with reverse controls, so the 5 way switch is at the end, that's why I appreciate long lead wires, and this brings the volume control to the baby finger, where I can swell the notes like a steel guitar, or dial up supersonic.
I'm using Fender amps, all tube, old habits die hard. But they're heavy, so I bring a Peavey Transtube 40 watt to the jam sessions & occasional gig. I hardly ever need effects - they're in the amp. But I rely on the basics: Ibanez Tube Screamer, original Fuzz Face & Cry Baby, also original Marshall Blues Breaker. Can also use a compressor now without risking all kinds of hissy fits. A little Flanger now & then adds acoustic properties to this pickup, as well as Jazz Box capabilities.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Mostly Blues, but classic 60's, 70's Rock. SRV, Clapton, Hendrix, Zeppelin, AC/DC, and uhh ... country by request.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: This is my 2nd custom Tele neck pickup from Tony, and there will be more. These are the best pickups I've heard in 33 years of playing, starting with a Tele, before I embraced modified-only Strats as well.
I've compared with pickups from at least 20 other manufacturers, prefer not to name names, other than the original "F" brand that gets disposed of.
I'm completely satisfied, and it nails my sound for about a quarter of the price that many would be willing to pay for a little slice 'o Heaven.
Anything else to share?? I feel compassion for my brothers in arms that are not using these pickups, at these prices, with this kind of quality and support. I'm not hogging them for myself and keeping it a secret.

Features :
Pickup features: single coil, stock configuration, with P90 output
Impedence or other specs: around 8k

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: custom built Tele Thinline
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced:
Other pickups on guitar: Duncan vintage Broadcaster in the bridge position
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): blues
Reason for pickup change: When I was building this guitar I was originally going to re-route the neck position to fit a P90, but then I thought about having a stock neck PU wound to P90 specs.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: This pickup has the output and tonal quality of a P90
Tone: the tone is well balanced.
Sonic evaluation: As I said above the guitar is a Tele Thinline that I built for myself. I usually play through a Rivera 55-12 with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, but I have also played it through Fender Twins, Deluxes, Bassman's, and Supers of varying vintages as well as many other brands all with outstanding results. It seems that this pickup will make any amp sound good. Even cheap solidstate amps. This pickup sounds great in any playing situation. I was really looking for something that would sound just as good clean or dirty and this pickup does it! I am actually able to play the whole night without switching guitars! (as long as I don't break a string or play slide)This PU sounds clear and bright and can even cut through a horn section when played clean. On the dirty channel it still maintains its clarity with a lot punch and bite. It doesn't get muddy sounding at all even if pushed into the shred zone you can still hear every note.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play blues mostly on the clean side and this is a perfect PU for my style of playing.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I have been playing for over 30 years and repairing guitars for about 15 years. I also own another Tele that I built, an 88 G&L ASAT, a Hamer Special a Larrivee L10, a 59 Gibson LGO and a Regal metal body resonator guitar. I really like the sound and output of P90 pickups especially in the neck position. I wanted something that was able to cut through no matter if I was playing clean or dirty. Tony at Electrokraft came through with flying colors!! I highly recommend Electrokraft PUs. I sent Tony an email telling him exactly what I was looking for and he made it happen. I am very pleased with this PU it sounds great in any situation! I won my PU on eBay but the normal selling price for Tony's PUs is very, very reasonable. Well below the $100.00 or more for mass produced PUs of other manufactures. I have been recommending Electrokraft PUs to all of my friends. I will be buying Electrokraft pickups for every guitar I build from now on and I am going to be replacing the PUs on a couple of guitars I currently own with Electrokraft PUs in the near future. You cannot go wrong if you use these PUs. Tony will Custom wind any pickup to your desired specs. And you can't beat his prices either!
