they sound terrible.Iplay all Gibsons and that is what I am used to.Wanted a Gibson 335 but didn't have the $$ right now so tried an epi dot.I have to change all the elctronics in this thing because they suck.I am hopeful I can improve the sound with better pickups mainly

Sound : 1
output level is average

various amps, marshall 1987,rloand micro cube, various effects and settings but mainly clean or slightly dirty

rock, classic rock, may be a good match after these pickups are changed

Wouldn't recommend this pickup for any guitar ,any position

Overall Rating : 1
I would give these pickups to a thief if they were dumb enough to take em and use em

playing since 1979,own a few Gibsons,sg's,les paul,

hate the way they sound,muddy

I was hoping they would sound similiar to a classic 57,but they really do not

Features :
open alnico humbucker, single conductor. it comes from the neck of a gothic sg.

Instrument :
I tried it in the neck of a strat, then in the bridge of the same strat.

Sound : 7
this is a neck pup. in the neck position it sounds quite bad: good highs but no definition in the mids and a mess in the bass. I give it 3. in the bridge position it's not bad: very funny, I like the sound it delivers. I don't know why but it's something close to the strat's mid+neck sound, plus a bit honky and compressed. not a very tipical humbucker sound, however.

Overall Rating : 8
I play since I was 16, now I'm 26. if broken, I would buy something else, maybe a kent armstrong. I like it because it's unusual. sometimes I play it out of phase with the single coil it's in the neck and I like the funky sound I get. if you're looking for a paf tone or a high output or a clean sounding humbucker, forget it. this is good for uncommon sounds, for over drive to distorsion sounds, for having more bite in the bridge instead of a single coil. it's got its own sound, I like it, you may not.

Reason for pickup change: They sound Muddy and lifeless

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: I dunno, I don't get out much, I'd say medium rare?
Tone: Muddy but not middy, Balanced but not brilliant, Trebly but not terrible.
Sonic evaluation: I use a 1964 Fender BF Deluxe Reverb and a Rivera.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I already told you, but here goes again. Jazz, Rock, Blues, Church.

Overall Rating : 3
Comments: If these pups were destroyed, I would rejoice and be glad. If some one stole them, I would question the sanity of a person who would steal cheap Epiphone pups off a cheap guitar. I would be glad to give these pups to any one who wants them.

Other pickups on guitar: N/A
Artists using this pickup: Are you kidding?

Reason for pickup change: Because these things really sound bad!

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: average vintage humbucking output, maybe slightly hotter.
Tone: bassy, muddy, compressed and lacking of ANY dynamics or hint of tone.
Sonic evaluation: Epiphone SheratonII, '71 Fender Deluxe Reverb or Super Reverb.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: R&B, jazz, blues & rock and it works for NONE of these applications.

Overall Rating : 1
Comments: I find it difficult to believe that Epiphone is still putting these horrid things in their guitars and getting away with it. Come on guys; there are a whole slew of other guitar manufacturers making import guitars (some in the same factory) that use WAAAAAY better pickups than these things (some even use "Duncan Designed" pickups)for about the same money or less. The Sheraton is a wonderful guitar overall, but these pickups have got to be the outright, hands down winner of the "worst sounding stock pickup ever" award. Congratulations!

Features :
Pickup features: humbucker passive
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: epiphone g400 sg 2003 model
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced:
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): rock metal
Reason for pickup change:

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: normal output
Tone: very muddy
Sonic evaluation: running thru marshall jcm800 and jcm900, these pups are very weak sounding with very little definition. they have no bite or clarity at all. the bridge position sounds like a weak neck pup

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: these would only be good for jazz style music, with low sustain and no treble clarity

Overall Rating : 4
Comments: these need to be replaced with stock gibson 490r and 498t pups

Features :
Pickup features: It bucks the hum, that's why it's called a humbucker; a passive beast/
Impedence or other specs: Don't know the impedance but it's pretty damn high.

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Epiphone Les Paul Special II
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Well I can't afford Seymours so I'm stuck with these blighters.
Other pickups on guitar: 2 of the monsters
Artists using this pickup: Me, naturally
You musical style(s): Between rock and metal
Reason for pickup change: Not changing em. It's not worth it for a $350AUS guitar.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Well let's see. The neck pickup is the muddiest load of trash I've ever heard, no definition what so ever. It's like the tone control is rolled off (and no it never is Einstein). I think they didn't pot the pickup properly or the messed up the windings, too much bass and mids. The middle setting is identical to the neck; muddarific in other words. The bridge pickup is the brightest piece of crap, again the mids are too many and there isn't enough bass to balance the tone. What was I thinking?
Tone: Neck: muddalicious. Bridge: Trebleriffic. Neck and middle positions sound identical so I guess that's hardly balanced
Sonic evaluation: Well I use the Epi Les Paul in conjunction with my Squier 10W amp and a Marshall Jackhammer overdrive/distortion pedal. The Jackhammer improves the overall sound quality a bit but not enough to my liking.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play rock mostly and it's not that bad. I only use the bridge pickup ala Van Halen (it can pull of a pretty good VH) and it does it's job but not enough definition at hi-gain. I'd say that they should revise this pickup completely

Overall Rating : 3
Comments: I'm dying for someone to come and steal this axe so I could get a new one. Well wouldn't you do that if your guitar was shitting you bigtime? I've been playing for nearly 7 years and had this geetar for the last 3. Besides the Epiphone, I own 2 nylon stringers, one crap, one awesome. To the pickup, I hate everything about it, when I bought this guitar it sounded pretty good but with age it gets worse and worse. I played guitars with Seymours in them and you can't compare, it would be blasphemy to do so. But hey, most of us start of with a really shitty electric, except for those rich !@#^@?, you know who you are. I just wish it was made better but for $350AUS it's as good as you'll get. And yes, still searching for "that" sound.

Features :
Pickup features: Passive Humbuckers
Impedence or other specs: ? don't know

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: 2000 Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: none
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: ? Me and anyone else using stock Epi LP standard
You musical style(s): Hard Rock
Reason for pickup change: These Were stock pickups I liked so I left them in

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: High output for alnico humbuckers
Tone: Very balanced
Sonic evaluation: I use an epi Les Paul standard->danelectro fab tone->crate gx 2-12. The crates clean channel shines, with and airy sounding with good bass. The fab tones distortion really shines though. They don't squeel and sustain nicley. Great for mediocre stock pickups. Both positions are great.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Any type of music with a little tweekimg

Overall Rating : 1
Comments: If they disapeared so would guitar. I would not replace though, I put in real gibsons. I've been playing 7 years, my third electric and it sounds great. I love them. Not the best but not the worst either. Just right for what I need
