Features :
open alnico humbucker, single conductor. it comes from the neck of a gothic sg.

Instrument :
I tried it in the neck of a strat, then in the bridge of the same strat.

Sound : 7
this is a neck pup. in the neck position it sounds quite bad: good highs but no definition in the mids and a mess in the bass. I give it 3. in the bridge position it's not bad: very funny, I like the sound it delivers. I don't know why but it's something close to the strat's mid+neck sound, plus a bit honky and compressed. not a very tipical humbucker sound, however.

Overall Rating : 8
I play since I was 16, now I'm 26. if broken, I would buy something else, maybe a kent armstrong. I like it because it's unusual. sometimes I play it out of phase with the single coil it's in the neck and I like the funky sound I get. if you're looking for a paf tone or a high output or a clean sounding humbucker, forget it. this is good for uncommon sounds, for over drive to distorsion sounds, for having more bite in the bridge instead of a single coil. it's got its own sound, I like it, you may not.

Features :
Bridge Humbucker: wax potted, Anilco-V magnets. Medium output to my ears(although it is listed as hot).

Instrument :
What model guitar or bass did you install this in? 2005 Epiphone SG 400
What position is it in? It was in the bridge
What pickup are you replacing? I replaced the stock bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan JB
Other pickups installed on the instrument? not yet (Neck PUP is next)
Any artists using this pickup?
Reason for changing the pickup? The tone was lacking

Sound : 4
The sound of this stock PUP is okay. It is rather thin, lifeless, and buzzy lacking detailed harmonics. There are worst pickups out there but plenty of better ones too.

Overall Rating : 4
The Epiphone Anilco-V bridge pickup came stock on my 2005 Epiphone SG, which is a sweet guitar. I bought the guitar fully intending to upgrade the pickups eventually. I just replaced the bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan JB humbucker, which brought my guitar to a new level tone-wise.

My setup is as follows: guitar > Vox Wah > Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, Electro Harmonix Small Clone Chorus, Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb > Epiphone Valve Jr. amp head > Rocktron 1 X 12 extension cab. Through this setup, the stock bridge pickup sounded okay, but kind of thin and buzzy. With the new pickup, the tone has been completely transformed to a full and rich with plenty of harmonics. The new pickup has just the right amount of bite and sustain. The stock PUP was barely adequate for my style, which is blues, classic rock, and jazz. I've been playing for seven years.

Overall I'd give the stock PUP a 4. It's okay but rather bland sounding - thin and buzzy in comparison to my new Seymour Duncan JB PUP.
