Features
:
Hot single coil Pick-ups with hefty Alnico windings and adjustable poles. Can be purchased for neck, mid, and bridge positions for Fender Strats or any make/manufacture guitar with similar S/S/S set ups. The really great thing about these are that you can buy 'em new or save a few bucks and get a quality used set removed from a late model, USA Strat.

Had the factory stock neck and mid positions replaced on my MIM Fat Strat with these fine Alnico V single coils purchased used from the good folks over at Reliable Fender on eBay, although I must admit I was impressed with the tonal quality and sound of the stock MIM single coil units. I was surprised at how well they did chime up, so I'll keep them tucked away for another project somewhat later on down the road. The previous owner of my Fat Strat had, for some unknown reason, installed a Seymour Duncan SH2 Jazz Hummer in the bridge, a PUP normally reserved for service in the neck position of dual humbucker equipped guitars. This gave my Strat a light airy sound, but in a weird, fingernail screeching on chalkboard kind of way. Totally unacceptable. So out it came and I replaced it with a sizzling DiMarzio Double Whammy F spaced zebra hummer.

My Fat Strat comes with a rosewood fretboard and a Floyd Rose, which I had assumed was an after market add-on unit installed sometime later on during its life. However, once I got the pickguard torn down and the guts pushed to one side I was surprised to find that the body appeared to have actually been routed from the factory for a Floyd Rose unit. Glued inside the pickguard was a wiring chart from Fender showing that my particular guitar already came from the factory with 250K pots so the change over was no big deal. Once the PUPs were installed and adjusted she was ready to fire up and burn up the sky. And she did so like that beast from hell in The Lord of The Rings. Run for your friggin' life monster sound. Crisp. Well defined. Powerful and throaty. A perfect blend of PUPs with tremendous tonal quality and range, and it gained a healthy dose of sustain as an added bonus as well. For a minute there I actually thought I saw the baby geezus - but that was later on at breakfast when I was eatin' my toast.

I'm running this ol' Fat Strat through a 4x12 Carvin cab fired with my trusty ol' Sunn head and this week's flavor of the month Digitech footswitch my son just had to have. A powerful brew. For the buckage you just flat out cannot beat these used Alnico V's pulled from late model Fender Strats. They'll heat up most any guitar and they really do sound awesome with crisp, clear, powerful delivery. Definately worth throwing a few bucks at. You won't be disappointed. And your wallet won't be as light, either. Plenty left over for a beer run. Or two.
