Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Jazz, Rock, Blues
Reason for pickup change: The Texas specials sounded ok, but were very noisy in my MIDI and small studio environment. I have a Deluxe Fat strat and I found the "noiseless pickups" were very quiet even when I walked right in front of my laptop. BTW, the bridge humbucker picked up more EM noise than the noiseless pickups do. I also really like the sound of these pickups and now my Lone Star is a perfect backup to my Deluxe.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: There are two versions of this pickup, standard and hot... These are the hot ones and they balance well with a humbucker in the bridge.
Tone: They seem to have a real classic strat sound sans the 60 cycle hum and em noise.
Sonic evaluation: They sound great, less middy than the Texas specials. They're inexpensive, but a great upgrade for my guitar. These are the next step for Fender post Lace Sensor and they have only recently become available in the after market.
I use this both with my Line6 POD direct in recording setup, and live with my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I recently aquired a Fulltone FullDrive 2 and these pickups sound great with it through my amp's clean channel.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play Jazz, Rock, Blues originals and these pickups give me the sounds I like to play with.

Comments: I was not completely unhappy with the Texas Specials, but once I tried the Noiseless in my Deluxe strat, there was such a big positive difference I decided to upgrade my Lone Star as soon as I could. I would replace these with another set if ever needed.
I love the clear biting sounds that are the classic strat tone without the over mid-range tone and noisy sounds of the Texas Specials.
I thought about putting EMG's David Gilmore set, but didn't want to go active pickups, (because of battery hassles), and they were quite a bit more expensive.
I am very satisfied with the sound, I guess I'm done looking for now. Someday, I may buy a used American Standard and put in Fralins, or some other pickups, but I am very happy with my two strats now.
One last thought, I play a number of other guitars, (PRS Standard 24, LP Standard, Tele, and others), and the hotter version of these pickups allow me to change guitars without having to alter the relative volume of my setup. This is very useful live, and I would suggest ordering the hotter version. Or, if you have other strats and no humbuckers, be sure to order the normal ones.
It took two calls to Fender by my dealer to make sure I was ordering the hot ones... (They originally said there was only one kind, the normal), The hot ones are Fender part # 005-3352 NOISELESS PU DLX FAT ST.
