You musical style(s): (for this guitar): blues/rock

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: slightly more gain than classic PAF
Tone: lots of creamy mids, lows could be tighter, highs a little recessed
Sonic evaluation: Richwood Chinese Lp copy, average Epiphone quality. Amps at home: Fender Hotrod Deluxe for clean, Marshall Studio 15 for lead. In the practice room: my trusty Marshall Guvnor mk1 pedal with any old amp!
Clean. They just nail the classic clean LP sounds, a jazzy sound on the neck PU and the Peter Green/Billy Gibbons (Blue Jean Blues!) tone on the bridge. In a practice room during a jam session alas the 3 way switch on the Richwood Lp gave up on me so no neck PU... On the bridge i could play rythm guitar with the volume down on a little Fender transistor amp.
Lead. With the Guvnor pedal into the little Fender amp i got a very convincing classic rock tone on the bridge think oldschool ZZ Top/Aerosmith/Led Zep. I turned up the highs a bit on the amp and on the pedal. Great sustain on my modest 99 euro brand new Richwood!
At home the GFS HB have a little trouble getting my Marshall Studio 15 amp into saturation. The amp has only 2 preamp tubes. With the Guvnor used as a booster i could get more gain of course but that's not what i'm after. See overall rating.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues, bluesrock, classic rock: good match. Hard rock: look further.

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: I'm a Seymour Duncan man when it comes to humbuckers, i prefer them to Gibson because of their better definition. I have a Tokai Jap LP copy with SD Jazz/JB which is getting collectible, that's why i got the cheapo Richwood to take out. The SD JB has more gain and more range from blues/classic rock to hard rock. The GFS is limited to blues/classic rock. OTOH i like the GFS better for clean compared to the JB. It's a matter of taste, that's the highest compliment i can give the GFS considering the immense difference in price. Only minor point are the cables, they are a little short IMHO, i was forced to mount the neck pickup upside down on my RW LP because the cable wasn't long enough.
For a cheaper guitar like Richwood or Epi GFS is a Godsend, great upgrade for a moderate price. For a high $ guitar maybe you'll spend the dough on Seymour Duncans. GFS ships fast but i had to mail them after a week to get a shipping confirmation. One day after i already got them! Very complete package including mounting ring, screws and wiring diagram. 4 conductor cable so splittable without extra charge.
Would i buy them again? For a Paul i would look for GFS HB with more gain and more present highs. For an ES335 copy these PAFs could do the trick very nicely.
