Features
:
7.8K bridge, 7.3K neck designed to retrofit most Rickenbacker Hi Gain or "toaster top" as well as Gretsch models that had the DeArmond DynaSonic of the 1950's-60's. These are fixed, non-adjustable, but staggered, bare pole single coild. They are passive, and require either grommets or foam rubber gaskets to provide stand-off from the sound board/top of the guitar.
Instrument
:
Installed in a 2003 Rickenbacker 360 in both the neck and bridge positions. Replaced the original, Ric Hi Gain single coils, which lacked much of a top end, and had too much gain to sound good with vintage-style effects.

GFS NYII's are a moderately hot, vintage-sounding single coil, built on a modified P90 Alnico II bar magnet structure. They have that sought after, "steeley" top end, and "bell tone" quality in the upper register, which is a trademark of the original DynaSonics, and was prolific in Rockabilly in the mid-50's. This is the type tone you expect to hear in the Gretsch White Falcon and White Penguin model guitars. They lack a little in the bottom end, but this is not their hallmark. Superb mids. upper mids, and again, high top end; a double octave high E at the 24th fret sounds incredible! A good pup for 50's through 70's rock tunes. Not for the Hi Gain enthusiast.

Yes, I'd replace them in a sec. For a Ric, you have to drill the middle hole on each end of the mounting ears to have vertical adjustment overall of the housing, but it is a small thing. The fact that the mounting screw spacing was dead on was more important. I've never been that thrilled with the high end of the stock pups, and when you try and obtain the Ric toaster tops, you better have a lot of patience and be willing to fork out over $300 for a pair. After a very long time of being frustrated over this, I decided to take the risk and modify to this design, and was expertly advised by Jay at GFS on what to expect(and not). I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to replace the stock pups in any NEW Ric with the NYII's. I've been playing and teaching music for over 40 years, and currently run a Randall RG200DG3 hybrid 2X12 with another 2X12 extension cab, both loaded with Celestion Seventy 80's. I use an EH Soul Preacher compressor/sustainer, a Small Stone variable phaser, a Boss TR-2, a Digitech DigiVerb and Chorus, and MXR Hendrix Fuzz(octave and regular). A Vox 847 Wah is outboarded to my pedal board.
