Passive Humbucker Pickup $144 With enamel-coated wire, special Alnico V magnet, and matched coils, the Gibson Angus Young Signature humbucker provides a one-two combination of vintage-style punch and ripping tone that will sear through almost anything. Comes with 4 conductor wiring for series/parallel/split-coil variations. Gibson wax potted the Angus Young Humbucker twice to eliminate unwanted microphonics.
* Hot, nasty tone with vintage-style punch and ripping tone

Removed the stock pups from a RG 270DX Ibanez with H-S-H and the AY is in the Neck, it says bridge, but it is nice in the neck when combined with Tony Iommi in the bridge and a Fender SCN in the middle position, as they go well together. See "Bombtrack" etc.

High Output used with Dr. Z and Marshall DSL50 half stack for heavy metal and it matches wonderfully. Some people have complained about this pickup, either they installed them wrong or they matched them with the wrong pickup. The Iommi is even hotter than the AY so the Iommi goes in the bridge and the AY in the neck. The Iommi is even better though.

I wanted a nickle or chrome humbucker for the neck. I had an Iommi already in another guitar so I bought another one in chrome and combined it with the AY in the neck and a Fender SCN in the middle position. It worked out fine and I am satisfied. If it were stolen I might try a WCR Ironman next time.

Humbucking bridge pickup-Supposed to sound or give Angus Young tone
Instrument
:
Installed this in my bridge position of my 2006 Gibson SG Standard
Replaced the stock 498t pickup
Gibson stock 490r pickups is still in neck position
Its an angus Young Signature pickup, but I do not believe he uses it,just put his input in making it
I am an Ac/dc freak and really like the Angus tone .My 498t wasn't a bad pickup, but I wanted little more of the vintage tone and going for the Angus type tone
Sound

Its a fairly high output pickup
I use a 1972 model 1987 50 watt Marshall half stack
The tone in this pickup is kinda of a cross between the 498t I had and a more vintage tone such as the Gibson classic 57.Its a smooth sounding pickup.I do notice I now have alot more control of the tone simply by using the volume and tone controls on my guitar, much more so than I had with the 498t.
I play ac/dc type tunes with this guitar and pickup
This is designed for the bridge position of your guitar. This pickup is fairly versitile and could be used in classic rock or bluesy rock tunes. It cleans up fairly well by simply cutting back the volume some.

If it was destroyed I would most likely go for the same thing again.I am content with it.
I have been playing since 1979.I own an acoustic guitar,an epiphone bass, and old ibanez randy rhodes type guitar,an old epiphone 550 scroll,a Gibson Les Paul Studio,A Gibson SG Special Faded,a Fender standard Straocaster,a Epiphone Dot.Pa system, few different littler practice amps, and a pedal board.
I love the tone this pickup gives and the user friendly control I have by the guitar controls. It goes throaty or mellow by turn of the volume knob on guitar.
I don't care for the hefty price of this pickup. It definatley is more than it should be due to the name of Angus with it.
I was contemplating either getting the 57 classic,57 classic plus or the Angus signature.I decided on the Angus signature becasue I just am an ac/dc tone freak.
I am content with the tone/sound this pickup gives me.
Search around if your gonna buy this, prices vary considerably form one place to the next.
Here it is in action if this helps anyone contemplating getting it or not:

I've had this pick-up in my guitar for three years and am now just understanding that they are really, really poor replacements.
Pickups don't make great tone, players do. This pick-up not only didn't turn me into Angus, it impeded my progress because I was always fiddling with my amps tone instead of practicing licks. I finally bought another guitar - a Les Paul Jr. - because it came closer to the angus tone than my sg did. I will replace the Angus pick-up with a humbucker-sized p-90.
Although I've been playing guitar for 15 years I know nothing about the electronics of pickups. I had a pro install this into the bridge position. Maybe he did it wrong. All I know is that it is weak and quacky and I'd rather plug a BC Rich piece of crap into my amp than listen to my angus-equipped SG struggle with this pickup.

Model of guitar or bass: Ibanez RG series
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: stock
Other pickups on guitar: stock
Artists using this pickup: I assume angus young.
You musical style(s): indie rock
Reason for pickup change: I started a band and needed the guitar for its tremelo effects (I normally play a tele). I bought this for a really good clean tone and I got it. On my rather ceahp guitar, the pick up sounds amazing. And since I still have a stock pickup in my bridge position I can compare anugs young with the stock, more or less, and well the anugs young blows it away. I hope to replace the one in the bridge when I get the money someday. Also, with the chrome cover, this pickup looks hot, especially on my black guitar.

Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: classic '57 plus
Other pickups on guitar: classic '57 (neck)
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): '70s rock
Reason for pickup change: I felt that the '57 classic plus in the SG had a slightly "honky" tone... sort of a "squawk" to it...(almost like a nasally vocalist. I also felt it lacked a little sustain.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Definately higher output than the '57, and higher than the Dimarzio super distortion that I tried first.
Tone: A fatter, Bassier sound that the '57. And the "squawky" tone is gone. Plus the sustain I was after has arrived. In fact it sounds so good, that now it makes my Les Paul Standard sound a little lame.
Sonic evaluation: '61 Sg reissue.Marshall TSL602 Combo.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great for Heavy Rock. Clean sound is pretty ordinary, but if you buy a Marshall, and an SG for a clean sound, you're an idiot.

Comments: At last a pickup that has the sound I like, and the Nickel cover so it doesn't spoil the "Classic" look of the guitar. This pickup combination is so good, I'm going to change the Dimarzios in my Les Paul to the same.

Comments: I Hated this pickup.....It flat out sucked, Heavily distorted it was ok...but they all sound alike through a Big Muff...Clean it was just a nasty tone, alot of my songs go from clean to distorted and it just couldnt be done with this. With an Overdrive pedal you could get Angus's sound.....But you HAVE to play just like Angus to get anything out of this pickup, if you are diverse in your playing this pickup is NOT for you....I ended up going with the P-94 and I LOVE it!!!!

Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Gibson SG Faded
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Stock Gibson
Other pickups on guitar: Stock Gibson
Artists using this pickup: Um....Angus?
You musical style(s): Hard-ass rock, metal, classic rock
Reason for pickup change: The old stock pickup had no presence and was sort of muddy. My solos couldn't cut through the rest of the band. The Angus Young was a natural choice because he's the guy who made me want to pick up a guitar in the first place, and I play loads of AC/DC. I wanted a pickup that would get me that tone.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Nice and hot...really cuts through.
Tone: For the most part balanced, but maybe a Touch Too Much treble. That's a minor complaint, and after all, Angus' solos need that extra treble.
Sonic evaluation: I have a Marshall solid-state combo, I often plug through a Line 6 POD or a Big Muff. I get great tones with all.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Perfect for hard rock, can be made to play metal too although that's not what it was designed for. This pickup wants to jump out of your guitar and rip your head off, so I wouldn't recommend playing anything wussy through it.

Comments: If someone takes my Angus Young pickup they're gonna get hurt. It is a great pickup with a great sound, I was surprised at how much confidence this pickup added to my playing. Maybe one day I'll put one in the neck position too, but I don't know how necessary that is, the stock seems to be doing a competent job there. This is not a particularly versatile pickup, but what it is designed to do, it does well. A great choice for any AC/DC fan or hard rock player. I'm rating it only an 8 for the versatility factor, but as a hard rock pickup it's a 9.5.

Reason for pickup change: wanted to try something new and also get a really good distortion sound

Perceived output level: Really hot i think, but not too much. I guess there are hotter pickups out there but I want the vintage vibe.
Tone: Very balanced! The pickup really answers to each string you strike and you can edit the setting on the amp if you're looking for a particular tone.
Sonic evaluation: I'm using an Epiphone Les Paul Custom trought a Hughes & Kettler amp and it sounds killer. I haven't tested the guitar in any other amp with this pickup, but I will in the future. I really like the way this pickup answers to the way i'm playing.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: With this guitar I play mostly heavy metal and hard rock. It has a really good distortion tone. The clean tone is not really good however. I would not recommend this pickup to anyone who wants an all-around guitar.

Comments: If this pickup was destroyed I think I would buy another one for this guitar. It fits really well to the heavy metal setting that i'm trying to achieve with this guitar. I have been playing for about 5 years. I also own a Fender American Vintage '62 Stratocaster, and since that guitar is a really good all-around guitar, I don't really need a very good clean sound on my Les Paul. I love the distorted tone it has, and the way it reacts to my playing. I wish it had a little better clean tone, but since I own a good Fender which can handle that, I feel that this guitar is completed with this pickup. This pickup also gives alot of feedback on my amp compared to my old SD '59, which can be a little negative sometimes. But in all in all, this is an excellent pickup for heavy music.

Perceived output level: It's the same output as the Classic 57 Plus
Tone: It has a nice tone, but not enough character for me.
Sonic evaluation: I play through a Marshall JCM 2000-DSL. It's very easy to get a good AC/DC sound out of the Angus pickup, the SG and the Marshall. My only fault with this pickup is that the AC/DC sound is really great, but I went back to the Classic 57 Plus in my bridge because I can get AC/DC, Santana, Slash, and a really all around rock/blues sound from it. I can also conjure up some really nice pinch harmonics reminiscent of Billy Gibbons or Zakk Wylde. The Angus Young pickup gives you Angus, and that's about it. It does exactly what its supposed to do, but I guess I was hoping for more.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: For the AC/DC sound, this pickup is awesome. For diversity, go with the Classic 57 Plus

Perceived output level: hotter then hell, this pickup takes you down the highway and rings the satans bell for you. you won't find a pickup with such searing tone providing excellent highs...
Tone: maybe too trebly for some but that's what the bridge position is for in my book>> soloing and that's about it...
Sonic evaluation: i use a fender twin reverb and a fender ultimate chorus, both of which sound excellent with this pickup.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: blues, hard rock, and metal, i would only put this pickup in the bridge position.

Comments: i've been playing for about 6 years now and i must say this pickup kicks royal ass, get it and you'll see. i had it installed by a cat who has been working on guitars for years and his eyes were as big as saucers when i came to pick up my guitar. he couldn't believe how hot it was...
