Features :
Pickup features: Humbucker
Impedence or other specs: 4k

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: '63 Dbl. Anniversary
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Both
Other pickups on guitar: HiLotron (previous)
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Rock, blues
Reason for pickup change: Upgrade to old PU's

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Same as the HiLotrons! Weak!
Tone: Very bright, some decent twang
Sonic evaluation: Less output than I would've expected, it certainly doesn't challenge the preamp too much, which is maybe why it is so clean. I would prefer a hotter pickup.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I guess it delivers what it promises, but I feel a little ripped. It could be the EXTREMELY bad customer support I've gotten from Fender (who now handle Gretsch).

Overall Rating : 3
Comments: I would never, ever, buy this pickup again. I bought it on the assumption that I was recieving the "High Sens." model, but one looked like the "Hot Rod" version. So I had the shop I bought it from send out another Hot Rod", which ended up being identical to the "High Sens." in both physical attributes as well as DC impedence.
So I called Fender to get this mess straightened out, only to find that they have no real way to tell their own products apart. In fact, the idiot I spoke to didn't even know the difference between a HiLoTron and a Filtertron. He was completely unhelpful, probably because I called him on the fact that he has lousy product knowledge. He refused to give me the proper specs (the ones he did give me didn't match the pickups I recieved). All I wanted to know was what the h*#l I was installing in my guitar. I had to e-mail TV Jones to find out an appropriate string height for these - which they gladly gave me. When Fenders competitors are more helpful than Fender on Fender's products, well ya just gotta wonder . . .
DO NOT buy these pickups, get the TV Jones instead. In fact, don't buy Fender, period.
End rant.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Rock n Blues

Overall Rating : No Opinion

Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: '60s Gretsch Anniversary
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Hi-Lo trons
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: all the Gretsch greats
You musical style(s): old Rock,Blues crossing over to Jazz
Reason for pickup change: The old Hi-Lo trons are supposed to be half of a Filtertron
and half the output, not a bad sound just weak, unable to cut through very well. Plus this upgraded my cheap Anniversary
to a 6120 which go for big bucks.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: That Gretsch sound! Maybe between a humbuck and a Strat singlecoil
Tone: Pretty clear, less Mids than a Gibson, not very good for distortion
Sonic evaluation: Sounds great thru a Fender Deluxe or a Vox AC30

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: better for neck or middle settings, bridge could use mor output

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: My Gretsch is a different kind of beast, you either love or hate
them (like Rickenbackers) I feel that the sounds it makes it does
better than any other guitar but is less versatile than sy a Strat.

Features :
Pickup features: humbucker, poles adjustable on both coils
Impedance or other specs: ???

Instrument :

Model of guitar or bass: guitar
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: new mounting on birdge of hollowbody
Other pickups on guitar: gibson '57Classic in neck position
Artists using this pickup: Duane Eddy, Brian Setzer, George Harrison, Neil
Young....
Your musical style(s): surf, rockabilly, and general rock and roll
Reason for pickup change: My guitar had no bridge pickup, and I figured I'd
go for twang heaven

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: hotter than a PAF
Tone: trebly. Imagine a tele bridge pu as a humbucker
Sonic evaluation: the pick up is all twang. if you like rockabilly,
this is the sound. For other styles, its a bit harsh. In general, brighter
than a PAF and raunchier.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I haven't tried
the pickup in different positions, but it is glorious on the bridge of a
hollowbody

Overall Rating : 10
Comments:
This is the sound!!!!
If you've always wanted a Gretsch, but can't afford one, here's your ticket.
I bought an old KAY guitar, put a PAF in the neck and a Filtertron in the
bridge. In conjunction with the rosewood tele neck, metal bridge and Bigsby
vibrato, the sound is hot and bright. The pickups are still made in the
USA, and are available in chrome and gold. I chose chrome. The sound is
very limited, however. There is no "sweet" and very little "fat" it is big
time "TWANG" Do note that the Filtertron is very microphonic, and you can
pretty much talk into it.
