Sonic evaluation: The other reviewer is wrong about the Setzer Signature Model Filtertrons also being used in the Hot Rod Model. In fact, one of the reasons Setzer pushed Gretsch to introduce the Hot Rod model was to introduce these new pickups, which were created with the help of none other than TV Jones. Setzer interviews are all over the web and in past issues of guitar magazines to attest to this fact as well as the fact that Setzer used the Hot Rod Model with these pickups in his tours back in 1999-2000.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: All
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: For Gretsch tone, you will be happy with these. Will you like TV Jones? Absolutely! But, if you have these in your Setzer Hot Rod 6120, there's not need to replace them.

Comments: If you want the great vintage Gretsch tone, DON'T BUY FILTERTRONS FROM GRETSCH!!!!!! These Gretsch Filtertrons that are found in the Setzer signature guitar and the Setzer Hotrod guitar are made in Japan. They are not made the same way, do not have the same tone, and DO NOT SOUND LIKE VINTAGE Gretsch Filtertrons!!! I went to Guitar Center to buy these. I was told that they were made for Gretsch by TV Jones. This is totally untrue. The Filtertrons made by TV Jones are the real deal. TV Jones had the metals in the original vintage Filtertrons analyzed. TV makes the Filtertrons that are used by Brian Setzer. Setzer has had discussions with Gretsch about his signature guitars not being right. You can read about this in Guitar Player magazine. Both Guitar Center and Gretsch should stop telling people or implying that the Gretsch Hotrod and Setzer Signature Filtertrons are made by TV Jones, or even used by Brian Setzer. I'm taking these pickups back to Guitar Center.
