Perceived output level: output is less than a Gibson humbucker, more than a Fender single coil.
Tone: Tone is thinner than a Gibson Hum, but fattens up into distortion. Microphonic like an old tele, will sqeal like hell with a BF delux on 6.
Sonic evaluation: I'm playing it through a Dr.Z, a HIWATT, and some tweeds. This guitar is wonderful, btw, and at a fraction of the price of a 66 Gibson 335(anyone got a green one out there?).
The pu's read about 6.5 K as opposed to Gibsons 7.8- but they seem to still be strong sounding, just don't get muddy nearly as quickly as Gibsons. My neck pu is clear and sweet, perfect really, the bridge can take you into twang country , and the mixed postion is out of phase sounding, very useful in a Peter Greenish way. While I agree withthe other submitter in giving a big thumbs up th these pu's, I find that my neck pu has way less muddiness than any Gibson Humbucking pu that I've used. And I don't find them ugly.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: As is (in desparate need of potting), these pu's would not be suitable for any hevy rock or metal becuse of the extreme sqeal factor, but I'm afraid to pot them for fear that I will screw up the magic. Otherwise, it would make a great guitar for any style and would suit country far more than a Gibson Humbucker.

Comments: I love Everything about this pu, even the ridiculous microphonics. The best way to describe the tone that comes out of them is Gibson mixed with an old Gretsch. I was looking to buy an early 60's 335 when I bought this guitar on a whim and haven't been able to put it down ever since(about a year ago). I should shut up before they start getting jacked up in price.PSST!Did you ever think about those 60's Guild D50's made out of Brazilian Rosewood?
I digress.
While the output is less than an a stock humbucker, the perceived volume is good , this doen't sound like a weak pu like a Hi Lo tron . Ther is much more clarity and headroom on these pu's than most other Hum that I've played yet they still sound very warm.
If you've read my review on the Dynasonic reissues you know that i hate giving out 10's(i.e.-I would give my Gibson Jurassics a 6), nonetheless; Got any for sale?
