Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking, passibe pickup, allen bolt pole pieces
Impedence or other specs: high output, made in usa, designed by dimarzio for ibanez

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Ibanez RG550
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: V8
Other pickups on guitar: V7, S1
Artists using this pickup: used by some guitarists in the 90's for hard rock, metal
You musical style(s): Classic to Modern Rock
Reason for pickup change: Stock pickup lacked definition, clarity and output.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Very Hot, high output, not muddy, enhanced mid range punch
Tone: Well balanced, bright tone, it cuts through
Sonic evaluation: The pickup sounds great for modern rock, metal, and for solos. Has lots of power but not too much like some. It's hotter than my dimarzio paf pro. I'd say it has about the same output as the dimarzio super distortion pickup but brighter. I use a Marshall JCM 900 live and a Line6 spyder for practice at home. I use few if any effects.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This pickup is made to burn- great for leads, metal and modern rock, designed for the bridge position, I haven't tried it in the neck position

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: I have been playing for 15 years and have tried all sorts of passive and active pickups. This pickup is basically a dimarzio with the ibanez usa name stamped on it. Sounds like a bright, high output dimarzio and you can easily get some awesome distorted and lead tones with it. Harmonics and leads cut through while the low end stays defined and not muddy. Great rock style pickup if you can find it used.
