Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking, Passive, Ceramic Magnet
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Ibanez S540fm
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Norton, Tone Zone, PAF Pro, EMG81
Other pickups on guitar: QM-1
Artists using this pickup: Me
You musical style(s): Instrumental Rock
Reason for pickup change: Recording has caused me to reevaluate my tone.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Moderately Hot. More gain than a PAF Pro, about as much, maybe a little more than the Norton.
Tone: Focused
Sonic evaluation: This is an Ibanez S540fm that I typically use with an ADA MP-1. This guitar has had many pickups in it, and I have reinstalled the stockers twice now and have found them quite good.
The S has a mahogany body and is not as focused as an RG. Much bassier. I have found that the stock Q-series pickups have the best recorded sound. The PAF Pro which I normally like alot, sounded thin in this guitar. The Norton has the right output, but is too open and not well defined for leads. The Tone Zone was too dark. The EMGs sound "corporate", sterile. So I went back to the Qs.
Dont be deceived, when you pay $1200+ for a guitar, they put good pickups in there, the Qs work nicely. They are ceramic and add the focus that this guitar badly needs. (With medium output alnico like PAF Pro and Norton, everything was glass and all-over-the-place.) Also, its hot enough for good gain, but not so hot that its ultra compressed. I have had a hard time finding pickups for this guitar but recent recordings have shown the Qs to be best for this guitar.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Recordings dont lie, these work well for picked runs and legato.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I'll probably get another Ibanez S and keep the stockers in there this time!!!

Features :
Pickup features: humbucker
Impedence or other specs:

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Ibanez RG620QSSOL
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced:
Other pickups on guitar: QM1 in the neck position
Artists using this pickup: me
You musical style(s): metal, blues, clean stuff, funk.
Reason for pickup change: am changing to something different

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: moderate or maybe a bit less
Tone: weak, totally characterless sadly
Sonic evaluation: Setup is Ibanez into Dual Rec.
Other setup is P.R.S. CE-22 which sounds so fuckin' good to me. The Ibanez doesn't even get a look in any more which is sad 'cos its got the Super Wizard neck which is pretty awesome!

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: unsuitable for thick metal sound, blues, any other than eighties high gain pop in fact!

Overall Rating : 3
Comments: Pickup is pretty pants. My Yamaha Pacifica had a better tone (just!) but neither is even remotely in the same league as my P.R.S.'s sound. The QM1 can't compare to the H.F.S. in the P.R.S. Change this pickup for something better. Don't tolerate mediocrity! I'm off to put a Rio Grande Muy Grande in there.
