Features
:
Pickup features: Stack humbucking, single coil clone.
Impedence or other specs: 11.65 kohms, alnico 5 magnet...
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Charvel CH4.
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: None: I've changed the pups on all my guitars, except on this CH4!
Other pickups on guitar: J50BC and another J200 on the middle position (note that this second one has not exactly the same response).
Artists using this pickup: Nobody now (too old, too "80's").
You musical style(s): All I can eat.
Reason for pickup change: No reason cause I did'nt change nothing.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Slightly stronger than with a standard single coil... but with NO HUM.
Tone: Glassy and tight... but the "mid boost" can make it sound like a muddy PAF.
Sonic evaluation: A little lack of dynamic: you must shake it hard to obtain a response and some clean settings can give a "static" tone... BUT I'm always surprised when I plug my Charvel (I also own and play a strat, a Les Paul and a Line 6 Variax): the active circuitry does compensate the "lifeless" character of these pups and you can scream some really good licks through it.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Good match for all styles, thanks to the mid-boost circuitry which makes the guitar very versatile.

Comments: The bridge pickup is better on this axe and the J200 has not the "spark of life" which makes a very good pup (if you want to know why such a "stack" humbucker sounds lifeless, see the Kinman's website). But it's not a bad one: some day, I've played "Sultans of swing" with the neck and middle pups in parallel and I heard a guy shouting that I had EXACTLY the knopfleresque sound. It was'nt true, of course. But this little story shows that the J200 is useful and can work with honesty.

Features
:
Pickup features: passice singlecoil, covered like a lace sensor or a EMG (runs with a active 6 dB midboostcircuit)
Impedence or other specs: no clue
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Charvel Model 6 (early japanese "SL1")
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: comment on position: it is in the middle and the neck. the PU is not yet replaced but will soon be
Other pickups on guitar: J-90
Artists using this pickup: none
You musical style(s): rock, metal, jazz, blues, pop: everything except RnB and country
Reason for pickup change: not yet done, but to be honest: I don't like true singles
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: as "hot" as the bridge humbucker (J-90, read my comment on that piece of junk)
Tone: sharp, edgy, glassy. to go short: standard singlecoil
Sonic evaluation: run my model 6 through a mesa Quad preamp and a 50/50 poweramp. clean it sounds OK with the midbooster turned on (that is clean it sounds OK). overdriven it sounds shit like all singlecoils I ever had in a guitar through that amp. maybe I am not a singlecoil kinda guy, it simply doesn't work for me.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: well, I am not a singlecoillover, but I guess it will do for most pop music, my styles (mostly rock/metal) are not achievable with this thingy

Comments: well, since I am not a "s" kinda guy, I almost hear ppl say; "why the hell did you buy a HSS guitar, like the model 6/SL1 is?" answer: there are singlesized humbuckers in the market, so 2 of em are going to replace these PU's (lil' screamin demon in the neck and a pro track in the middle). ergo: no singles for me: I want a good lead sound and these things lack that, clearly.
So, these things are a NO GO in my opinion.
I understand this is not usefull for potential buyers, but I can't say anything more about them, sorry. I only wanted to get rid of my frustrations for the long time I have to wait until my DiMarzio order arrives with replacements for these pieces of junk.
