Features
:
Pickup features: Humbucking "designed for use with active circuitry" (dixit Charvel in the 1986 catalog).
Impedence or other specs: 8.58 k, frequency resonance of 6.5k... PAF specs but a little hotter and xith a ceramic magnet.
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Charvel CH4.
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: It's the original...
Other pickups on guitar: J200...
Artists using this pickup: Am I alone?
You musical style(s): All I can eat.
Reason for pickup change: No reason because I didn't change nothing...
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot or bright... depending on the "mid boost" pot....
Tone: NOT BASSY: the ACTIVE preamp is simply set on a frequency resonance of 2.5khz (nearly the same than with an EMG 81), in order to reproduce the NATURAL sound of a passive humbucker through a 15feet cable...
Sonic evaluation: I was and I am still very happy with this pup AND its preamp... Not as precise as a Duncan but it sings...
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Hard or heavy metal, chiefly. But I've played all sort of things with this axe...
Overall Rating
:
9
Comments: I'd buy it again with the guitar...

Pickup features: Passive
Impedence or other specs:
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Charvel: Model 4
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Jackson: Single coils
Other pickups on guitar: I replaced this pickup with a EMG81(Active)
Artists using this pickup: Who ever used this guitar in 1987. Maybe Metallica.
You musical style(s): Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Reason for pickup change:
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: This pickup went to a Pre-Amp(which came with the guitar officaly) Now, you ask if its hot? Well, yes, but not even close to most products.
Tone: BASSY!!, Very Bassy! But it is not as bad as you would think because, if you pop on some distortion, you'll get a VERY chunky tone when you plam mute. But on the clean tone, it does suck.
Sonic evaluation: I used that pickup to a Line6: Spider212, and like I said, its bassy.
I also used pickup when I played a Randall: RH200 Head & Cabinet, it was even MORE bassy! The clean channel is just awful.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I guess you could say this pickup would be best if you didn't have another guitarist or a bassist in a band, just a drummer, than it would be ok. But again, not with the clean tone!
