Reason for pickup change: I wanted a neck pickup and there wasn't one so I routed a hole for the new pickup.

Tone: Middy in the neck, trebbly in the bridge
Sonic evaluation: Cheap Fender Squier strat copy with old cheap Crate 60 watt solid state amp with 12" speaker.

Comments: I bought it in the 1980's for $100. For $100 you should have some other options today. I thought this pickup sounded better in the bridge position. In the neck position it has a very mellow sound. It would probably be good for Jazz. One thing good about it is that it doesn't just distort all the time like the Jackson Ultra High Output Ceramic Humbucker. Depending on how much distortion you use, etc., you can vary your sound so it's more versatile than the ultra high output ceramic. These Jackson pickups are not noisy and they can be wired either passive or active.
