Features :
His V-59 set...Humbuckers, Alnico 4 Bridge reads about 8.3, Alnico 2 Neck reads about 7.8. I got them with Gold Covers, and the look as amazing as they sound!!!

Instrument :
I ended up putting them into an Epiphone LP Standard + Top. They replaced a Bill Lawrence L-450 3.6 in the bridge, and a Dimarzio DP 194 Classic PAF. Both nice pick-ups, but they just didn't match the sound was alright...but nothing like these!!!

Sound : 10
These are what I wanted for my Epi Les Paul...they didn't break the bank, hell I got a matched set for almost the price of ONE new Seymour Duncan JB or the like!!! They are definitly Classic PAF sounding with a little bit more clarity and bite in the bridge position, and the neck is sooooooo smooth and natural sounding it is simply beuatiful!!!

Overall Rating : 10
This is it....I have found the guy who can give me the pick-up I want, help me choose it, and then give the tone and clarity I desire!!! All for a decent price (for now). I wish he did single coils, but hey you can't have everything!!! I have an '86 Jackson Soloist here beging for something from Jon!!!

Features :
Humbuckers, vintage PAF style. 8K neck alnico 4 and 8.2K alnico 3 bridge. Lightly wax potted. My second set

Instrument :
Installed in Gibson Les Paul, to replace my previous set of Jon's pickups. I wasn't unhappy with his previous set, I thought they were great, but I wanted something a bit different.

Sound : 10
Vintage output. Very impressive PAF sound. Balanced, sound great clean and distorted and a nice edge from the assymetrical wind.

Overall Rating : 10
I think I prefer these to my last set. This time I told Jon the sound I wanted and I had him wind it and choose the magnets for that sound. He really knows what he is doing, trust him.

These are every bit as good as my alnico 5 Lollars (i disagree with the previous reviewer a bit on this), and an excellent value.

I was really impressed with the new protective platic he puts on, it really helps to get them in without scratching.

Everyone who is in the market for replacement pickups should talk to Jon.

Features :
humbuckers custom made. 7.5K neck, 8.5K bridge. Non-potted (initially).

Instrument :
Gibson SG to replace stock pickups.

Sound : 8
Typical vintage humbucker output (I picked it). Sound is good. Similar to stock gibson alnico pickups, with slightly more high end, and a bit more complex sound overall. I ended up wax potting them because of a squeally bridge pickup with higher volumes. That seemed to solve the problem. I can't really complain, as he offered to pot them initally.

I think I prefer Lollar and Voodoo humbuckers myself, but these are very good for half the price.

Overall Rating : 8
I don't think I'd buy another set, but they are very good, and I'd recommend them. I think they are better than many Gibson and SD pickups that cost twice as much.

Comments: I've been playing for 35 years or so. Been through many guitars and many ( replacement ) pickups. I dig single coils, but have been getting back into vintage style PAFs lately. Seths, Antiquites, WCR's, Dimarzio, Armstrong, Gibson Pat #, etc.
I must say, these pickups are incredible. Warm, dynamic, articlate, very sensitive to touch. Perhaps the most clarity of any humbucker I've ever used.
The clean tone is elegant. Lush, detailed and rich. The note bloom is fantastic. With some overdrive applied to the mix, the separation and note detail is nothing short of amazing. No mud, no mush.....just incredible, warm, singing sustain.
As you can tell, I'm very happy with the way these pickups turned out. The guitar is a custom design from a very talented luthier in Indiana. The acoustic tone and sustain from the guitar is stunning. The Moore pups transmit every tone, note and nuance with such clarity it's almost frightening! Hearing these pickups make me realize how much coloration other pickups add. Not that thats a bad thing.....I do like that in certain pickups....and matching them to the right guitar can be a thing of beauty....but these pickups go way beyond that. They are really something special.
While these may not be for everyone, if you play the blues or play with touch and emotion, you owe it to yourself to hear your guitar with a set of Jon's pickups. Jon is very knowledgeble and will wind whatever you need or want. If you're not sure, talk it over with him and let him suggest what may work best for you. Great product, great price and great service. I'm very, very happy with these pickups. Everything I was searching for and much, much more.

Features :
Pickup features: Custom wound zebra alnico humbucker built to order, PAF style
Impedence or other specs: 9.3k bridge, 8k neck

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Gibson Explorer
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Stock ceramic Gibson early 90's
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Classic rock, blues, prerequisite dance covers, etc. Not super heavy.
Reason for pickup change: Stock ceramic pickups were way too hot, very dark, weird, crappy and unnatural sounding.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot enough!
Tone: Warm, natural with nice throaty mids and smooth highs.
Sonic evaluation: I've owned LOTS of guitars, amps, pedals, etc, mostly after a good vintage rock tone. Current gig rig is a customized Fender 4x10 Bassman, boutique pedals include Crowther Hot Cake, Barber Tone Pump (awesome) and Direct Drive (nearly as awesome) and Visual Sound Route 66 (great comp, pretty good tubescreamer, nice for the $).

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great for any style where PAF tone fits.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I've been playing semi-pro for over 15 years, currently play 3 or 4 weekends per month near home. Mostly bars, also corporate events and the odd wedding.
This Explorer is kind of a beater axe that I picked up pretty cheap. I knew those stock pickups had to go. I also own a very expensive Les Paul Classic Premium Plus with Lindy Fralin PAFs. I didn't really want to shell out for Fralins again, so when I saw these on EBay I took a chance and bid for a set. WOW, did it ever pay off! They were built for me, to exactly the specs I wanted and Jon shipped them well-packed and on time. A close visual inspection revealed perfect build quality in every respect. (By comparison, my Fralins arrived with one of the threaded mounting holes MISSING on one of the legs.. I had to tap/thread a hole myself. Kudos to acmeguitarworks.com for rush-shipping me a tap tool for this, but shame on Fralin for lacking the quality control in the first place.)
The thing I'm struggling with now is that the Jon Moore/Explorer, without a doubt, now sounds BETTER than the Fralin/Les Paul, which cost about 8 times more. No joke. Maybe it's the guitar itself, the obvious thing to try would be to swap pickups with the Fralins, so I could do a fair comparison, but I don't know when I'll ever get around to that!
The guitar sounds absolutely amazing to my ears now. I've replaced lots of pickups in lots of guitars over the years and this is the most dramatic improvement i've ever heard. By comparison those Gibson ceramics were completely sterile, muddy, 'wooly'. These pickups sing with soul in this guitar. I'm very impressed and wouldn't hesitate to buy again for ANY guitar at any price point. Nothing against Fralin, but Jon Moore's PAFs cost less than half (currently) and are every bit as good or better IMO. Jon Moore clearly knows what he's doing and was great to deal with too. Maybe the word will get out and he'll get swamped with orders and just become another stressed-out businessman. Right now, I think he's more like an artist, and I'm very happy to be the owner of some of his original works!

Sonic evaluation: Saw Jon on ebay. I almost bid on the pickups he had for auction, but before I did, I emailed him to see how much he would charge to make me a pickup to my specs. He promptly replied and I ordered my pickup. I asked for a chrome covered, unpotted neck bucker with un-balanced coils and Alnico 3 mags. He delived a beautiful pickup in a very short period of time. Through a bit of mis-communication, the pickup arrived with legs to high to fit into the neck position. Jon offered to take care of the problem as soon as I notified him. I opted to keep it as is. I did make it fit and it is exactly what I was looking for. Beautiful, lush, smokey blues tone. Articulate, touch sensitive and very responsive to the guitars volume and tone control. It sound incredible clean and with overdrive. Dead quiet with no squeals even though it's unpotted. This pickup gives me the exact tone I had in mind when I ordered it.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play a variety of styles. Blues is my love, but I enjoy playing whatever I can.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I will definatley buy form Jon again. His price/performance ratio is incredible. Better get em while you can becasue I'm sure once the word gets out, his prices will increase. Right now, it's the major buy of the century! In addition to the great product and price, Jon is a gem to work with. He is a wealth of knowledge on pickups. Again, the pickup not only sounds good, it is beautiful to look at!

Sonic evaluation: This is a prelimanary review of these pickups after about 1 hour of playing time. If my impressions change I will repost. These pickups sound fantastic, just a superlative paf sound. The resistance is about 7.5K for each pickup and I thought they might be a bit weak in this guitar - I initially purchased them for a hollow body guitar and decided to test them in this guitar before going through the agony of fishing wires through f holes etc. They are however very strong sounding - even with the volume or tone pot pulled back, the tone does not die. They are open sounding and very responsive to pick attack. One of the problems I had with this guitar is that it loses it's dynamic qualities when using overdrive. I did not notice that with these pickups in this guitar. I found myself immediately playing to the full range of my abilities when improvising. I don't foresee ever removing these pickups from this guitar.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This is an excellent paf style - strikes me as slightly edgier but wonderfully musical

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: These particular pickups have alnico 3 magnets, matched coils, 7.5K resistance, nickel covers, and are un-potted but Jon can build them to your specifications. He sells on ebay, is located in Canada, his email is rhonjon@sympatico.ca and a search of 'handwound' should locate his listing, his username is jsmoore64. I have been playing for 26 years. I gig sporadically in an rock band and have been studying jazz more and more in the past few years. I have tried, in this guitar alone easily 10 different pickups including 3 other handmade. I am still in the honeymoon stage with these, but their needs to be a post for these on Harmony Central. They sound to me better than anything I have ever heard, clearly superior.
