this one ohmed out to about 11.5, so thats a fairly hot sc
i play my own morphed blues rock and while i dig some vintage tones i realized a long time ago that we dont have to go pay stupid money for old guitars to get these sounds.
PEOPLE GET A FREAKIN' GRIP!!!
i only will own pre 1985 gibsons because they were built better when they were in kalamazoo. but i dont want any so called sought after machines because ultimately our tone is in us. if we come with a good guitar and amp we will do what we do.
i have these in my early 90's american strat with a c shaped neck with a maple fretboard. (but as of this moment the body on guitar is a squire while i do some work to the fender bod---im rough on my guitars)
roller nut (1st generation)
2-point trem bridge w/ 5 springs and also blocked with chunk of maple
(that piece of maple trem block came from the lap steel i took this pickup from. hey, that lap steel was worth something after all!)
curt mangan 10-52's
shaller locking tuners that i stopped locking a long time ago. i reach up and bend the neck or behind the nut and all i ever used a whammy bar for was a little vibrato anyway. i can do it with my hands so why bother.
i have a dimarzio DP110 at the bridge (10.5 ohms)
the K.A-Strong in the mid (11.5) no tone pot as its wired to
the bridge. i wasnt planning on using the mid pu alone
Fender 57/62 at the neck (about 5.25--I took off about
450 turns on the coil)
let me just say this--i have had some very good fender pickups and even a seymour duncan over the years in the middle position of this guitar and absolutely hated the tone of the mid pu by itself. if not for the liquid tones i get when i combine the mid with my modded neck pu, i would have disconnected the mid a long time ago.
i generally hate the mid position by itself on strats except for some rare exceptions but i gotta say that i am getting a damn good tone out of this thing.
i took this pickup out of a lap steel that i rarely played and was planning on putting it in the bridge
i position my pickups as far away from the strings as i can and blast my amp. THAT is true power stage overdrive. i get some super feedback that way.
i have been playing guitar for almost 30 years and i havent gigged worth mentioning in 20 years. but i play A LOT and record A LOT. i just love to play and if i luck up and run across someone who wants to do some original stuff then lets go. but i dont care. i play for me.

oh yeaf. i run my guitar through a laney pt50 head (2-12at7/ 2-12ax7 2-el34 diode rectified. i modded this amp pretty close to a jtm 45 as far as i can tell (that i modded- removed the circuit board and the master volume) a no name 4x12 cab with a home made baffle so i can take off the bottom part of the back and expose the eminence speakers while leaving the top closed so i could get the chunk with the celestions I USED to have in it. now the tops empty.
here is the chain
guitar
dano tremelo
crybaby
stock blues driver
modded marshall blues breaker (old style)
yamaha emp 100 multi effects unit that has an output of up to 20db boost even when i dont use the reverb---which is the only effect i use in it.
i just use the amp simulator in my boss recording unit now though, along with a couple of the pedals just because only a few effects can be used at any on time on this thing (so far as i know yet....im still learning this unit.

Perceived output level: Hotten than the current stock pickups
Tone: Well balnaced but with a bit more bite in the midrange.
Sonic evaluation: Use in a Line 6 PODxt (Primarily the Fender Twin Model) and with a Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 2 x 12 combo.
This pickups are the most underrated pickups on the market today. I am NOT a beginning guitar player. I am an avid collector of guitars and equipment and am quite a bit of a snob when it comes to my equipment and have a taste for the high end and I must say, there is NOT a better value for guitar pickups on the market today.
These pickups are very well balanced and warm. These pickups, if adjusted well are very responsive and have a LOT of character. You can get a nice Larry Carlton using a Dumble Drive amp with good pickup adjustment. Nice and clean with warm midrange and then with a slightly agressive pickup attack can get that nice very light breakup of the sound.
Once again, these pickups have a LOT of color and character and are worth a shot. Especially for the price.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play all types. Mainly classic rock to modern

Comments: I would buy these again. In fact. This is my second set for my strat. The first set was for a guitar I built myself.
