Perceived output level: They have a slightly more powerful out put than a Fender type single coil. They have a wide magnetic field which helps this.
Tone: Middy/Trebly
Sonic evaluation: I use my home made Brian May guitar with a Marshall Valvestate 8080 and a Brian May/Greg Fryer treble booster.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Generally rock music. These pick-up's suit all types of vintage heavy rock. I have the pick-up's wired in series (like Brian May's) and each pick-up has a phase reversal switch. Two pick-ups on in series and in phase produce a thicker tone. Bridge and Middle in phase produce a quite powerful Humbucker. Neck and Middle out of phase produce a screechy sound which is attractive and useful for an interesting lead sound. All pick-up options are available with this switching system.

Comments: I love these pick-ups. They are sweet and gentle when turned down but growl when turned up!
I would replace the straight the way with another set should they fail of if someone could be bothered to unscrew them from the guitar!
They always respond in different ways and have a lovely tone that I have never found in any other pick-up. I doubt I could get any closer to Brian May's sound apart from owning a stack of AC30's!
