installed a set in a hardtail strat to replace the stock pups, hoping for an upgraded sound on the cheap!
Sound
:
10
When I first installed them I set them to normal height....about a nickel's width from the strings. They sounded so..so OK....better than stock but nothing to write home about. Like the previous reviewer, I thought they were kinda squealy, and sorta muddy sounding.
That was the first nite!
The second nite I broke out the screwdriver in an attempt to find the sweet spots, and did I ever find them!!!! In spades!!!
I play thru a "sonny Boy" blues pedal into a Fender Blues Jr, so needless to say I play blues and classic rock.
These are relatively hot pups....but the sweet spot is definitely there, but in a lower position than normal.....just keep lowering them and you will find it. It's round and fat and balanced and clear. I just about wet myself....considering the sound I'm getting vs. the price I paid. No squeal at all....great clarity and sustain. My professional musician pals agree....if they get ahold of it it's hard to get back.

The sound vs. price demands a "10". I'd buy these again in a New York minute.

Comments: When I bought these I thought I was getting a Kent Armstrong when it arrived it was a Kent Armstrong "DESIGNED" MADE IN KOREA. WD are real pros at misleading people with big names to sell cheap junk. One example is their Kluson tuners. They bought the name then have them made in Taiwon or Singapore. They fall apart and strip out and are junk. They bought the Stromberg name that was a sompany that made awesome jazz guitar, so WD buys the name and has guitars made in Korea that suck. But again they are using a name to rip people off and mislead them. Read the reviews at Gad's Guitar Page online.
