Features
:
Pickup features: passive HB with single coil look and sound
Impedence or other specs: see www.agi-lace.com/specs.htm
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 1968 Fender Stratocaster
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Di Marzio: Fast Track2
Other pickups on guitar: HG-1000 (neck/mid)
Artists using this pickup: Don't know yet,
You musical style(s): rock/blues
Reason for pickup change: want single coil sound without the noise, actually want a lower
output like and old strat so I can let the amp do the work.
With the fast tracks I couldn't turn the amp up to 3 for most
gigs which is where the amp sweetens up. (The low sensitivity
just doesn't cut it).
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: more than vintage because it is the hotter bridge pickup
Tone: bright but not harsh (with 500K ohm pot)
Sonic evaluation: Can get a retro 60's vibe when playing bridge only, like a surf sound,
passes "secret agent man" test :-) middle/bridge sound is good and clucky.
NOISE FACTOR: none with clean sound even close to the amp; with one OD pedal on,
nothing until you move close to the amp; with two
OD's in series there's a little noise, but way less then stock
single coils. It was more the pedals than the guitar in the second and third test.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This pickup could probably be used in all 3 positions for a hot vintage sound.
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: The amps used to test were a 60's Princeton, and a late
60's Bassman, and pedals used to test were an old TS-9, Blues
Driver, and a pro-co Rat. NOTE: According to AGI, both
HG's say HG-1000/1500 on the back, the front is supposed to be
a darker reddish color for the 1500's, and gold for the 1000's.
Be sure to test with an ohm meter to be sure you have the right
pickup because its hard to tell them apart.
