okay here is we get interesting so i was in a band that was gigging often and one of the things we would do is buy a cheap guitar and smash it on the last song.... (i was in high school what can i say) i purchased a huntington guitar with 2 powered by lace pickups in it... it was like a ply wood strat rip off.... but it sounded really good for all 100 dollars that bought it for. so i ended up not smashing it and played a good portion of shows with it as a back up or alternate tuning guitar... after the summer i ripped the bridge pick up out of it and put it in a squier jagmaster vista series (stock pick-ups blew, now it sounds amazing) and i was modifying my old silvertone/charvel hybrid strat thing i built and i actually removed the dimarzio super distortion and replaced it with a new powered by lace i purchased online for like 20 bucks because the super distortion had great distortion but didn't clean up... at all... and this had a great low end on the clean and heavy notes... so the frankenstrat has a lace in the bridge and a super 2 in the neck, and my jagmaster has a lace in the bridge and a PAF pro in the neck (awesome sound!)

This pickup delivers a very nice thick tone and doesn't over kill the harmonics like some others do... its not a hot pickup or a bright one but give her a little distortion and she roars. I play lots of alt rock and it fits it rather nicely, i wouldn't recommend this pick up for everything else you wont get crisp blues out of it, you won't get screaming leads, but if you want a roaring rhythm rock it.

i have purchased this pickup again when building another guitar and i am very pleased with the results. I've been playing for about 9 years currently im not using that guitar much just because the object of my affection is another modified by me guitar with a dimarzio tone zone and a seymour duncan 59' in the neck... but these pickups are a bargain and if i had to make another guitar i'd probably buy another one to put it in maybe... im not sure lol... its not quite there for me but its really close.... mix it with a pod and your 98% there man

Humbucking Passive
I recall about 8 or 9 ohms 3 or 4 henries if I remember corectly.
Instrument
:
I have these pickups in a poplar wood explorer type body with a maple neck fender scale. In both neck and bridge pisitions. Replaced some quad rail pickups. I changed the pickups becasue the ones that were in the guitar just didn't sound very good to me. I had bought these pickups just to check out since they were so cheap and they laid around for 2 or 3 years before I got around to testing them out. I shouldn't have waited so long!

The output level is a bit low for my tastes so I built a preamp in the guitar and have it set just right to only give a little bit of extra output. With that small boost the pickups get back up to where I like them somewhare around Lawerence humbuckers. Played this guitar into a couple of basemans and a Peavey clasic 50 and it sounds good with both but I actually like the Peavey better with this guitar and that is unusual since I like the basemans better with just about everything else. It is bassy but has a good bit of high end too for a humbucker. The mids are flat but sound a bit scooped becasue of the treble peak and the bass. I play blues and rock and they are a great match. The thing about these pickups is that you will re-adjust all of your tone knobs on the amp a lot to dial these in but when you do they sound great. Sounds odd that these pickups are so cheap and still sound great but they do. Another review said like Pearly Gates and he was right it is kind of like a poor mans pearly gates but these things have so much more howl to them. You can get a very vocal vowel like sound out of these things. As I said to me they don't sound as good with out a small boost from the pre amp. I would assume that had I just pluggend into a ts-9 first that would have done the trick too. I would also guess that you would not want these pickups in a guitar with another kind of pickup since you would not be able to set the tone knobs on your amp to make them both sound good at the same time. In other words if you paired it with a real Pearly Gates they just would not sound good together. Great sound for the price and in fact really good sound for any price.

I would buy another if it were destroyed in a heartbeat. I really love the sound of this pickup it is different but very musical. I can't say that I hate anything about it in fact for the price alone it feels like I hit the lotto. These pickups will stay in this guitar forever. You need to pick up a set of these because for the price you can not and will not go wrong they truly are fantastic for the price. If you heard me playing on stage you really would be hard pressed to tell when I was playing with these pickups or real pearly gates pickups and in fact these may sound better to you considering the vowel like tone. They are great!

Humbucking passive set of bridge and neck. Looks like a common ???bucker.
Instrument
:
I have the bridge pup on the neck position of a Kramer Striker FR-424. I replaced the stock ???Quad Rail??? pup. I also have a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the middle and a DiMarzio Humbucker From Hell in the bridge. I don???t know of any artist that uses these pups. I changed the stock pup because I wanted to experiment with different sounds and pickup configurations. Plus the stock pups weren???t that great.
Sound
:
No Opinion
The output level on these pups is just right; not too hot not too cold. I run my guitar through a Boss ME-8 and a Behringer mixer. The tone on these guys is just great; I paid 30 bucks for the whole set! I really enjoy theses pups. I play pretty much everything and the Lace???s cover all grounds quite well. One can be creative and mix the bridge and neck positions with these pups and hear if the combo better suits or not; it did for me!

If destroyed or stolen I would buy another set. I just love the bang for the buck with these pups; you just can???t beat it. The only other aftermarket full size humbucker I own is the DiMarzio Humbucker From Hell and the two sound too different to make a good comparison. I guess I should buy some Duncans! I???m pretty satisfied with my tones thanks to the Lace. It doesn???t come with the needed wiring for split mode (i.e. only ground wire and hot) so I guess if they were to be manufactured with this option it would make them that much more versatile. Try ???em!

Impedence or other specs: Not sure
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: ESP H-50
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Neck and Bridge
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Metal / Classic Rock
Reason for pickup change: The original ESP pickups sounded pretty bad. They were the LH-100 models. At heavy distortion they sounded muddy. They were also extremely noisy.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: These pups can get very loud while not sacrificing much in sound quality
Tone: Very balance tone in my opinion.
Sonic evaluation: I'm using a Boss DS-1 pedal on a Marshall MG10 practice amp. When I have the tone all the way up, these pups really scream. The sustain is incredible. They never get muddy like my stock pups did. On the clean channel these things sound really crisp as well. Another thing I like is that these are not as noisy as my stock pups were.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play Metal and Rock,,,usually classic metal and classic rock. These pickups are perfect for my style. I think they'd be perfect for jazz and blues as well.

Comments: I would buy the same pickups if these were broken or stolen.
I've been playing for about 5 years.
I love the overall tone of these pickups.
I didn't really compare these to other pickups because they were by far the cheapest humbucker set available.
I am exteremely satisfied with these pickups

Impedence or other specs: Couldn't tell you.
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: Epiphone G-400 Korina (SG Copy)
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Stock "Gibson Designed" Epiphone
Other pickups on guitar: "Powered by Lace" bridge and neck
Artists using this pickup: The three other reviewers who posted here before me.
You musical style(s): classic rock, brit pop, 60s covers, some punk, power pop
Reason for pickup change: The Epiphone G-400 Korina plays very well, but just accepted that it was not a good sounding instrument. I bought it knowing I'd have to replace the pickups to get somewhat decent sound. I experimented with some quality pickups such as Gibson P-94s and 57 classics. Both of these are excellent pickups, but they sounded like cardboard in this guitar. The expensive Gibson pickups just seemed to accentuate the poor quality of the woods Epiphone uses. I figured I needed to use the Gibson pickups in nicer guitars and put cheap pickups in my Korina G-400. I saw these pickups at Musician's Friend for $29.95 a pair and figured I could not lose.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: These rock! They definitely have a gutsy character to them, but they do not sound quite as obnoxiously loud as say a Dimarzio X2N or a Gibson 500T.
Tone: Very even tonal distribution. I was amazed. The treble pickup does not accentuate the upper midrange ("midrange honk")like the Gibson 490T and 498T tend to do. It is more evently balanced across the spectrum. But it produces very nice and clear lows, mids and highs. This is a, beautiful sounding set of pickups.
Sonic evaluation: AMPS: (1) SUNN T50C driving one Avatar 2 X 12" cab loaded with Celestion Blue Alnicos and a Carvin Legacy 2 X 12" loaded either with Celestion Vintage 30 or Greenbacks. (2) Crate VC 50 Head driving two Avatar 2 X 12" cabs loaded each with an Eminence Legend 122 Alnico and an Eminence Legend V12. (3) Fender Hot Rod Deluxe driving two Avatar 2 X 12 horizontal cabs loaded with Reverend Alltones and Eminence Legend 122 Alnicos. My cheap little Epiphone G-400 Korina can go from all out distortion monster to clean and almost chimey.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Both the bridge and the neck pickups are excellent. I tend to favor the bridge in my styles of play, though I do fairly often use both.

Model of guitar or bass: Steinberger GP-2R (musicyo)
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Designed by EMG
Other pickups on guitar: Both are "powered by Lace"
Artists using this pickup: Don't Know
You musical style(s): Jazz to med rock
Reason for pickup change: "Designed by EMG" stock pickup seemed to drop off on the high end. I had to use a pedal to even out the volume level to make the strings sound even.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Much more pronounced than the stock pickups. Made me sit and take notice the first time I plugged them in.
Tone: Bright even tone. Good high end. Good presence.
Sonic evaluation: First of all that 29.99 was a SET! That's bridge AND neck humbuckers. That being said, I wasn't expecting much from them. I was very surprised at the great tone I got out of them. I usually go straight to headphones through a small amp (Marshall) or directly to a computer setup, so I get pretty pure sound. I don't play metal or anything so I can't vouch for them there, but as clean as they sound I can't imagine they wouldn't sound just as good cranked up. You won't go replacing your Seymour Duncans with these or anything, but if you bought an inexpensive to midrange guitar and the stock pickups are not what you want (and your low on green), try these. Normal price is about 60.00 a set, and even for that they are a huge bargain. Beats the heck out of my "designed by EMG" stock pickups (IMO).
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Jazz to Med rock - good match for me- should sound good cranked up too.
Overall Rating

Comments: If something happened to these I would buy them again. If I got another guitar with so-so pickups, I would put these in. I have two other guitars with (real) Bill Lawrence pickups which I love. For this one I needed something not so top end with good tone that was inexepensive and the "powered by lace" humbuckers work great for that. I will probably keep these in this guitar. They do everything I want them to do.
