Red Lace Sensor---15.1k passive HOT pickup---QUIET single coil.
Instrument
:
Bridge position on a "frankenstrat"---(USA Strat body - Warmoth neck - sperzel tuners)---Lace Sensor Gold in neck and middle. Replacing Gold in bridge. I changed the Gold to Red for a little more bite.
Sound
:

This is definately a HOT pickup in the bridge position, and it actually balances well with the Lace Gold in the middle & neck. I wanted a little more bite and got it with the Red. P-90 meets Strat. Position 2 looses a tiny bit of quack, but is still a very usable sound. Bridge only sounds Tele-ish and breaks nicely. I play blues--gospel--whatever and find that I keep wanting to pick the guitar up and work it. I guess I'm just a tone freak. I play through the board at church using a small Vox amp for my monitor, and a Roland Blues Cube at home to practice.

This is a great sounding pickup to my ears. I've played a number of different kinds of pickups, from Fralin, to Van Zandt, to Carvin, and anything else in-between. Yes--the Fralins and the Van Zandts are great pickups, but because of them being single coils (and pricey) you get 60 cycle hum in positions 1, 3, & 5. I put the Lace pickups on even par with both of those pickups in every catagory except warmth. The Lace pickups are not quite as warm, but you have to have a very well trained ear to hear the difference. An audience won't notice it. Admitedly, tone is a purely subjective thing--but for me--I love the clarity, sweetness, and grit of the Lace Sensor Red. And let's face it---the quest for tone is a personal thing. As far as I'm concerned, the search is over. I've found a pickup that has quiet operation, enough sweetness and grit to cover any situation, and is QUIET. If they were lost or stolen I'd replace them in a New York minute.

Ultra-hot single coil without the hum. Got a set of 3 Sensors, Silver, Blue and of course Red.
Instrument
:
I have the pickup in the bridge position of my Strat. It's replacing a stock pup that just wasn't hot enough.
Sound

If you're after a hot distorted sorta Jimmy Page-esque tone from your Strat, this is the pup to put in the bridge. It just screams and it's so clear 'cos of the reduced hum. Have to say though that there is a slight hum, but the great tone you get off these more than makes up for that.

I'm very happy with this pup. It sounds like a really nice sweet Burstbucker, but it keeps the versatility and tonal properties of a single-coil. Excellent value for money. 100$ on eBay for 3. Excellent!

white cover-red lettering, can't remember how many wires it had, but it was easy to hook up. passive, can't remember other specs...i think it is a "hotter" single coil pu, but not as hot as my kramer double blade humbucker...
Instrument
:
i 1st put this in my 2nd headless guitar project in the neck position. i didn't love the sound of it. then i reworked that guitar, and the pu, sat in a box. then when i finished my latest project (4th guitar), i used it put it in the bridge position, pics here:
http://launch.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/EccentricLuthierySupportGroup/photos/browse/4c90
i will say that i like it better in this guitar, in the bridge, mahogany semi-hollow body mounted directly to the body...it just seems to be a better bridge pu than a neck pu to my ears.
Sound
:

it is a quiet pu for single coil, but has more high gain sound than standard single coil (don't know exact measurements). if you want that twangy strat sound, this is not it, but i think it works well w/ distorted tones. and i think the clean sounds are good too, its just not twangy strat/tele clean. works well w/ effects, i tend to use lots of them.

i got this pu in a box deal off ebay. i can't remember what i paid for it, but i got it w/ a couple of other pu's, fairly inexpensive, and i wanted to hear what these sounds like. the funny thing is when i was making my 4th guitar, i basically thought: i'm making a guitar so i can use this pu. i've been happy w/ it. i've been favoring single coil sounds over my guitars w/ humbuckers as of late, and i think this is a good compromise pu. its quiet, works well w/ my amp and effects and also recording direct.

Instrument

Kramer Striker. Middle position. Replacement for Dimarzio HS-3. DiMarzio distortion pickup, Lace Sensor Blue. Eric Clapton and the great ones. Doesn't like how HS-3 sounds, too weak for me.
Sound

Hot, can be easily overdriven and become clean with a little volume adjustment (I use 1 meg VC and 1 meg push/pull pots with .47 mf orange drop).
Fender Twin Reverb, Marshall Twincab, Zoom GFX5, Boston Engineering OD/DS/Del/Chorus/Flanger/Acoustic Modeler.
Fat/Loud and stratty.
I play rock and metal and a little bit of jazz, which this pickup can easily handle.
All positions I guess.

I'd kill the bastard that would steal this. I'll definitely buy another one if this is destroyed (which I doubt) :)

Lacce Sensor Red (Middle, Neck) They sound fantastic, If you want any kind of sparkle strat sound, this would NOT be a good choice, However, if you want a fatter sound that resembles strat like tones, than it's a cool choice, not really the cleanest setup, but it sounds good on it's own.

Pickup features: single coil passive
Impedence or other specs: red: 14.5K gold: 5.6K
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 1995 Fender Standard Strat MiM
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Original Mexican Standard Strat single coils
Other pickups on guitar: red lace sensor at bridge, gold sensor at mid and neck
Artists using this pickup: Clapton? Buddy Guy?
You musical style(s): Mostly blues
Reason for pickup change: The original owner of this guitar didn't like the stock Fender single coil pickups which he found to be thin. He called them "garbage" pickups. He had the lace sensors kicking around so he dropped them into this axe.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Output about the same as stock Strat single coils.
Tone: The red lace sensor is a bit louder and fatter and less "brittle" and "edgy" than the stock Fender bridge pickup. Definitely not a "humbucker" sound, though.
Sonic evaluation: I bought this guitar with the idea of taking the lace sensors off of it and dropping them into my SX Strat which is equipped with one of those MightyMite tortoiseshell pickguards loaded with MightyMite ceramic magnet pups. I had a Strat Plus back in the early 90's and loved the sound of that guitar back then when I was playing in a Country band. Well, the Mex Strat plugged into my Roland Cube 30, in the "clean" JC120 channel, sounded pretty damn good, nice and clean, with some quack in the 2 and 4 positions. The gold pup at neck position proved a bit thin and trebly. Cutting the tone back to about 5 or 6 knocked out the highs but also affected the dynamics adversely. I then pulled out my SX Strat and plugged it into the same amp at the same settings and man! it just blew that Mex with its lace sensors right out of the water! Ok, so maybe that cheap SX Strat with its full-thickness alder body has more natural resonance than the Fender which costs 4 times as much, maybe it's just a better built guitar than the Fender, I don't know, but with its cheap Mighty Mite ceramic pups (I paid $26 on ebay for the loaded tortoiseshell pickguard with 3 pickups, full-sized pots, 5-pos. switch, all prewired, "drop in") it has that vintage strat sound with all the gnarl and snarl and bodiness. The neck pickup, with tone rolled off to 5 or 6, has that nice warm bluesiness and still whines and growls when attacked. Don't get that from the gold lace sensor...
The red lace sensor in the bridge position has a lot of bite and sustain and is not as "jangly" as a stock Fender single coil, but I hardly ever use the bridge pup by itself anyway... In combination with the mid gold sensor, it has a nasal "phasey" sound and can whine when attacked but lacks the dynamics of a good sinngle coil.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Mostly blues. I think these lace sensor pups are more suited for soft pop music.

Comments: I've been playing for over 40 years and have had numerous guitars and amps over the years. I no longer play professionally, just sit around and jam on acoustic and electric with fellow retired musicians. I have a couple of hand-made Jack Armbrust acoustics, a Turser single cutaway semi-hollow "jazzbox" with humbuckers and my pet SX Strat copy. I play through a Roland Cube 30 and sometimes my 4-watt tube amp handbuilt by my friend John. I've had Gibsons (a '61 ES-335, a '68 LP Goldtop with P90's), and Fenders and Fender tube ('64 blackface Bandmaster) and solid state (Princeton 112, Champion 112, Deluxe 85 etc.) amps, Crate amps, etc. After a lot of disappointments from buying "names", I started trying out "off-brand" guitars and have been very happily surprised. My SX Strat suits me better than any "real" strat I've ever had. So, instead of dropping big bucks, would-be guitarists would do a lot better and save a whack of money if they went out and tried different axes with their eyes closed and their ears opened. Let your hands and your ears tell you what's right and forget about what guitars Clapton or Hendrix or whoever plays. You may surprise yourself at how cheaply you can get "that" sound.
It's like buying stereo equipment: You can listen to and read all the hype and get conned OR you can go and A-B the stuff, comparing one to the other with no regard to looks or cost or "frills" and you may find out that you can get really good-sounding stuff without having to pay and arm and a leg.
These lace sensors are not cheap to buy. For half the price of one of these, I bought a whole loaded pickguard which, mounted on my SX, blows away this Fender Standard MiM Strat's lace sensors every which way from Sunday. Mounted in my SX, maybe those lace senors would come to life, but judging by what I'm hearing from them on the Fender, I really don't think so. So, anybody want to buy a Mex Strat loaded with lace sensors? It's up for grabs...

Comments: I'd buy the JB Junior :) if this pickup gets stolen. I also mounted it on the bridge position of my strat and it sounds the same. I guess actodyne has a lot to learn from custom pickup manufacturers because my older custom pickups sounded better. I used Zoom GFX-5 for an effect (The best you can buy today at less the price) and tried adjusting the mids, treble, bass but to no avail. Lace just wouldn't give me that tone I wanted.

Model of guitar or bass: Lace Strat Prototype
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Lace Gold Sensor
Other pickups on guitar: Blue Sensor in bridage. Gold in middle
Artists using this pickup: Me (but not for long)
You musical style(s): Rock/Metal
Reason for pickup change: Wanted more output. Gold sensors were weak for rock/metal.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Much more than Gold sensor. Not quit as hot as say a Duncan JB
Tone: More bassy than a gold. Well rounded to my ear. Not at all bright sounding.
Sonic evaluation: Sounds fantastic through my amp and pedals at bedroom levels. WOW!! Was I impressed! That didn't last though. When I brought it to rehearsal and cranked the volume up on my Tech 21 Trademark 300 head I heard this mid-rangey irritating dimension to the sound, and lack of bottom end. Not too impressive at all. I'm ready to dump this thing for a Duncan hotrails. Strange that the pickup would sound so good at lower volume levels and so BAD when cranked up.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play rock and metal. This pickup is suited well for rock (not metal).

Comments: I've been playing for about 20 years now. I gig nearly every weekend in a cover band. We do everything from Neil Young through Metallica, and Blink 182. This pickup was installed in my backup guitar. I guess it's OK for a backup instrument.....but i would have been disappointed if it had been installed in my main axe. Not a bad pickup.....but if you are going to drop the $50-$60 on one I would look at getting a dimarzio fast track or a duncan hotrails. Like I stated earlier it sounds GREAT at bedroom levels....but lacks something when playing at gigging levels.

Email: I get too much email as it is, but my band will soon have a site and will have a monthly submission
Features
:
Pickup features: Single Coil, Passive
Impedence or other specs: I'm not going into it because most guitarists don't understand it anyway they want to just "plug and play".
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: 2002 Squier Standard Strat (Shoreline Gold with Maple neck)
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Original Single Coils
Other pickups on guitar: Lace Gold, and soon to be a Lace Silver
Artists using this pickup: Billy Corgan used to and many should but everyones to busy with emg's.
You musical style(s): Heavy (not pussy shit, real heavy like Meshuggah), Rock (Bad Company to U2), and Blues (Stevie Ray to Clapton)
Reason for pickup change: The originals were actually really responsive but in certain positions they made a ton of noise.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: The output of this pickup if driven correctly is very close to an emg81missing just a little bassiness and a tiny bit of crunch.
Tone: A little trebely, but what are e.q.'s for?
Sonic evaluation: I have played this through a boss Me-30 into an old Kustom head and cab and it sound extremely heavy with the eq bass on only 8 (out of 14). I have also tried this through a Marshall Dsl 100 and Mg 100 and there was more than enough distortion from both (obviously the Dsl sounded much better though).NO NOISE AT ALL!
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: If you like strats for some reason whether comfort ,shape or tone, but you want to be able to get a heavy sound a well sodered Red Lace will give you plenty.

Comments: If your guitarist with a budget and don't want a P.R.S. and Dual rectifier (as well as can't nearly afford it) like all these retards that play them now, you'll be more than happy with this pickup. I would definately get it again, and if were stolen I would be pissed. The RED LACE IS A RYTHUM PICKUP! I'll tell you that now, it's not good for soloing or crystaline clean sounds.LIke i said it realates very closely to the emg81. One last thing, if your a lazy guitarist that doesn't like to have to mess with getting tone don't get this.
