Submitted 12/19/2003 at 03:13pm by Kevin

Features :
Pickup features: passive single coil
Impedence or other specs: resistence 12.8k

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Fender Telecaster
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Blue Lace Sensor
Other pickups on guitar: Tele Plus Lace
Artists using this pickup: Jason Jordan
You musical style(s): blues/rock
Reason for pickup change: More punch and overdrive potential from the bridge and wired for an "add bridge" toggle option.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hot - but not ear piercing
Tone: Clear and balanced - bell like highs and solid single coil overdrive.
Sonic evaluation: USA Fender Tele Plus with a 5 way blade pickup selector and a mini toggle to "add bridge" to any selected pickup. Dr. Z Mas 38 Invasion 2X12 Reverb combo with Celestion V30 and G12H30 speakers

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: blues and rock mainly. This pick-up offers some great tonal versatility.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: Gives me the "classic" tone I want from a Tele and when pushed gives solid overdrive without "thin screaming noise." Really makes the bridge a useful option.

Features :
Pickup features: passive single coil
Impedence or other specs: see www.agi-lace.com/specs.html

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Mexi Tele
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: cheapes stock fender
Other pickups on guitar: TN-100 Tele Neck
Artists using this pickup: don't know
You musical style(s): blues/rock
Reason for pickup change: Want tele with balls. They don't have a section for customer
support here on the pickups page, but I do have some concerns
dealing with AGI: They rarely respond to email with genuine
questions (1 out of 4 in my case). And it is difficult to actually
buy their pickups since most stores don't stock anything but
dimarzio and duncan and Fender/Lace. They won't sell to a
customer direct, and they don't help you in getting a dealer
that has a good price. I almost paid list, and when I saw
other people in this forum paying lower prices, I went to
other dealers with better prices. Then got my dealer to go
lower. You should get prices at least 22% lower of what
AGI has on their web page, and closer to 30% for the HG
pickups. I think they are a bit spoiled due to their relationship
with fender putting a bazillion of their pickups on their
guitars and forgetting who's really paying for them. They
need better customer relations.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hotter, but not way to hot, I don't like that.
Tone: Not as screaming as a vintage tele, but good bite.
Sonic evaluation: Bassman head w/marshall 4x10, pro co rat and blues driver pedals.
In my comments of the neck pickup I forgot to mention the noise factor.
They don't advertise these as noise free as they are single coil, but
they are reduced noise, you have to get real close to the amp even
with OD pedals on the noise factor is reduced. And you don't get that
darn squeal (as all stock tele pickups have) at all. I believe they use
somekind of special shielding within the pickup maybe similar to the
sensor technology???

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: blues/rock.

Overall Rating : 8
Comments: This review should be read with my review of the TN-100 neck pickup
to get all the details. I'm still searching for "that" bridge sound,
this one only gets an 8. The stock pickup gets a 1 becuase it's so
noisy its unusable. The not so perfect tele bridge sound could be
due to the fact that I got the T-150 hotter bridge pickup, perhaps
the more vintage T-100 captures the twang factor better??? (NOTE:
I gave the neck pickup a 10).
