This is a P90 pickup, passive and medium output. AlnicoII magnets. No matter is not a high output pickup it still has that P90 crunch when pushed. The beauty is that it cleans very well with guitar volume. Very responsive!!
Instrument
:
This pickup is installed in a Les Paul Jr. 09
Replaces Gibson P90.
The main reason to change the pickup is that Gibson's P90 is a hot pickup, and in a single channel tube amp doesn't offer that much flexibility, is hard to clean the pickup because it hits the preamp too hard.
This pickup cleans a lot better but still retains the qualities of a good P90.

As said before this pickup is very responsive of the volume control and offers a great dynamic range, from clean to mean. the tone is GREAT with very good harmonic response. Is smooth but it rocks hard with a JTM45 when pushed.
The tone is slightly brighter and not as midrangey but it can be compensated with a good tone cap and good pots.
I play mostly blues and classic rock and that is why I needed a change. I have to say that if I was in a punk rock band or more agressive music I would not change the original pickup but in order to get dynamics using the Lollar P90 is a MUST.

I would definitely buy Lollar pickups again. Is superb quality. Thanks to Greg and his wonderful customer service, very paciently answered my questions.
I used Lollar pickups that came with my Nash strat and absolutely loved them so when I bought this LP jr. and noticed the need of a change I didn't think twice to choose Lollar to replace my p90. It was just a matter of going to the standard or the 50's vintage and I can't be happier that I chose this one.
I like single channel tube amps. No master volume so using medium output pickups with good dynamics is more than a necesity.
Still besides the dynamic response the biggest reward is TONE. I have no doubt of Jason's amazing knowledge in how to deliver the best pickup. So far I have used strat single coils and this P90 and I would love to try Imperials with the right guitar too.

Passive single coil pickups. Bridge 7.4k Neck 7.1k Alnico 2 magnets

Replaced both neck and bridge position in an Edwards Les Paul Special. Stock pickups were Seymour Duncan Vintage P90s, which had more output than I wanted.
The pickups were copied from Sean Costello's 53 gold top.

A perfect balance between a humbucker and Fender type single coil pickup. Gets very close to Fender-ish tones but is much ballsier. Bright, almost chime-y at time, but never harsh. The neck pickup is full and round sounding with absolutely no mud.
They are a bit slower to overdrive my amp than the stock Seymour Duncans, but are much more articulate and musical in any application. Sound great when I boost them with my Tube Screamer reissue.
Minimal noise for a single coil pickup

Well worth the price paid. I took a mediocre sounding guitar and transformed it into my number one. In the interest of full disclosure, I must add that I also replaced all of the stock electronics with RS 500k pots and PIO caps.
I would definitely replace them if lost or stolen and if I buy any other P90 guitars, you can bet they'll get Lollars.
I have played for over 30 years and these pickups fill a gap that I can't fill with my humbucker-equipped Les Paul.

Comments: Ues with tube and/or solid state amps, these pickups are without a doubt the best I've heard. I loved the tone of the stock pups I had on a real 57 LP Special and was hoping to find some of that magic again with this guitar. As musch as I tweaked those things, they did not come close to the harmonic complexity I remembered. The Lollars far surpass the re-issue pickups and are ( dare I say it? ) even better than the original 50's Gibson P-90s. The Lollars are much more quiet, more balanced and exude a harmonic sweetness not heard in any other pickups. These pickups inspire me to be a better player and make every little nuance of your playing style come forth. Since installing the Lollars, I've become addicted to this guitar.
