Features :
Passive Mini Humbuckers

Instrument :
I play a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet W/bigsby. though the guitar sounded pretty good for a affordable korean made guitar I decided to have Wade at Motorcity rewound both the neck and bridge pups using the ones that came stock on the guitar.

I did this primarily because there would have been alot of modification that would have had to happen to fit full Humbuckers in the guitar. I also changed the volume pots and wiring and Wade also wired them so I could Split the coils.

Sound : 10
Now the output is hotter, being where it needs to be and the sound/tone quality has improved tremendously. I knew it would be better but was surprised by how much.
The different levels of clean are awesome retaining the Gretsch signature sound and the last 1/4 turn just sets it on fire. The split coil setting is very cool as well.

I play them through an Egnater seminar head and GC Egnater 4x12 straight cab and am truly getting tones that I have heard on CD's on the national level. Dann Huff ,premier Studio Guitarist turned me on to Egnater and Egnater highly recommended Motorcity. so follow the tone trail from the best and now I cant believe I am getting those tones.

Overall Rating : 10
I plan on getting my Pbass Pu's changed out to Motorcity bass Pups and will be using Motorcity for 2 other of my guitars in the future.

With Wades 100% satisfaction garauntee and lifetme warranty you cant go wrong

I ordered 2 humbuckers from Motor City Pickups. I found his myspace page and began talking to Wade about pickups. I ordered the Afwayu Humbucker (16.1k DC resistance). I still need to order more pick-ups from Wade. I hope to see him at NAMM soon! I only play passive pick ups. Active pick ups sound great for bass, but don't like the sound of an active pick up for guitar. Great for some, but not for me!

Instrument :
I put one in a 1974 Les Paul Standard and another one in a Ibanez Destroyer (70's). The original picks were OK, but I needed something with more definition. Wade still wants me to buy a neck pick up, but I keep telling him that I never play in the neck position.....unless I'm alone and trying to write sappy songs!

Sound : 10
The Afwayu Humbucker has a nice sound. The pickups seem to just give a fuller sound without coloring it and giving a nice vintage tone. Lows are tight and the highs are clear, but have a nice sweet tone, not shrill! I always play clean when checking out guitars and amps, start there and then go for the dirty sound. If you have a good clean you can always get a good dirty tone. I think Wade understands this and makes a good solid product.

Overall Rating : 10
Wade is a great guy and makes a great product. I used to play in Ugly Kid Joe on Mercury records and have done two other bands that toured and have CDs out. I have been playing guitar for 30 years and have alot of nice Amps, Guitars, Recording gear. Music is my life and it always will be, it's nice to know that Wade is a music fanatic as well and a great guy. If you have a chance, Check out his products before he gets too big and they start making his pickups in China and he no longer returns your e-mails! Rock on Wade!

Features :
Matched set of Afwayu humbuckers with Detroit gasoline covers. 16.1K AlNiCo 5 magnets.

Instrument :
I put these in my Les Paul goldtop replacing a set of Duncans that I had installed earlier. These pickups look awesome with the heated chrome covers that look like chrome pipes on a car or a bike that have been heated up with that sweet greenish/purpleish/blueish/pinkish tint matched with the goldtop!

Sound : 10
These pickups have some steam to them that's for sure. High output that will grind with any pickup out there yet chimey clean when run through a Fender type clean channel. I've got a 50 watt Marshall master volume and a 100 Mesa Dual rectifier and they work great with both amps. No mud with either amp although the Marshall with the EL-34's seem to be a tad bit darker and the Mesa a little brighter with 6L6's. I play mostly punk/indie/alterna-rock so I tend to have the gain up most of the time. The pickups have great harmonic response and wonderful tone. Pick your favorite amp, turn the gain up and hit and open D or G chord and let it ring out and you'll see what I'm talking about!

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing guitar for 20 some odd years and these pickups are the real deal! I picked these up for 2 reasons; Dave at Bluesairman guitars sells them and I got a chance to check them out locally and Wade, the founder of Motor City Pickups and the way he caters to his customers. I like to support the local Detroit scene and the independant stores and builders so it was a no brainer and I don't see ordering the big name after market pickups from anyone else. The tones I can get are as good as any other pickup I've tried and when you break it down, MCP is a better value than the others so order a set, crank up that amp, click on the distortion, rock until your ears bleed, and piss off the neighbors!

HUMBUCKERS, PASSIVE IS A VERY DIFFERENT WORLD WITH THESE PICKUPS. THESE PICKUPS ARE SO PRONOUNCED AND BALANCED OUT OF THE BOX. THE SPECS ARE PERFECT AS WADE CREATES EACH ONE TO ITS PERFECT BALANCE AND TONE. HIS DEEP TO THE BONE DESCRIPTION OF EACH STYLE PICKUP IS AN APPETITE THAT IS SILENCED WITH SATISFACTION. THEY SOUND AS STATED.

Instrument :
I HAVE HAD An '85 GIBSON V WITH "SOLUTIONS" IN THEM TO QUENCH MY EMG APPETITE. MY GARY MOORE SIG WITH "AFWAYUS" BLOWING THOSE NEWER PAF's AWAY LIKE THEY WERE KNOCKOFFS. AND NOW MY '70 GOLDTOP IS SO TIGHT AND TONEFULLY BLESSED WITH SOUL ALONG WITH VINTAGE GIBSON LES PAUL MOJO. THIS LES PAUL SHINES DOWN ON ANYTHING I EVER PLAYED OR HEARD THROUGH VINTAGE MARSHALLS. WADE BALANCES HIS PICKUPS AND WILL CUSTOMIZE IF NEEDED TO COMPLIMENT THE WOOD, TO GET THE TONE OUT INTO THE AIR TO BREATHE THEN SWALLOW YOU UP. I REPLACE VINTAGE DIRTY FINGERS, EMG'S, PAF'S-BURST BUCKERS, SETH LOVERS, ETC. HIS MY SPACE WEBSITE AND MCP SITE IS JUST STARTING FILL UP WITH BIG NAMES ALONG WITH UP N COMING LOCAL ARTISTS AS WELL AS ABROAD. THE REASON IS TRUE UNABLITTERATED TONE, IF I SPELLED THAT RIGHT...

Sound : 10
PURE TONE HEAVEN, TIGHT AND SASSY, WADE IS THE MAN THAT HAS NOW RAISED THE BAR IN PICKUP DEVELOPEMENT... OUTPUT IS HOT, YET HE CAN TAME THEM TO MAKE YOU PURR. PERFECT TONE, AND I PLAY METAL, HARD ROCK, BUT HE COVERS THE FULL GAMMET. BOTH POSITIONS

Overall Rating : 10
I WOULD HAVE TO GET MORE FROM WADE AND HOPE I CRUSH THE PUNK WHEN I CATCH HIM. IVE BEEN ONLY PLAYING FOR 7 ON AND OFF YEARS, BUT HAVE A GOOD EAR AND KNOW MY EQUIPMENT AND TRY TO KEEP IT PURE AND SIMPLE AND LET THE GUITAR THEN AMP GIVE ME THE SOUND UNMOLESTED, THEN ADD TRANSPARENT EFFECTS SUBTLY TO MY TONE. IM A SATISFIED LIFER TO MCP. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED...THEY ARE MADE IN THE USA OF ALL DOMESTIC MATERIAL...THANKS WADE, AND CAN HE PLAY A STICK, LES PAUL OF COURSE, AND IM STILL WAITN ON MY LESSONS...

Features :
Humbucker, passive, 9.26k in the bridge and the neck is at 7.55 k. Different turn count for the coils too, but are of a more symmetrical winds. They are intended to have more lows and mids but still retain a chimey high end without being harsh. PE wire, Custom magnets and materials.

Instrument :
Firstly, I am gonna start off by saying how I came across the good Wade at MCP! I have been a great fan to Lovepedal for years, and own more or less everything he makes. He has the best ear around and knows his tone. I chatted to him about needing humbuckers, and he told me to give Wade at MCP a call. Obviously I did, and just for a chat I could tell he was immensely knowledgeable, and ordered my first set from him. They blew my socks off, so I ordered my 2nd set, then now, the THIRD set! He never gets it wrong!

I wanted a Peham blue 335, but can???t afford one. So I bought an Epiphone Supernova I found cheap! Now the Epiphone Semi-hollows sound notoriously bad, and this one is no exception. Acoustically it was like playing a plastic box with strings on, trebly as hell, no mids/bass??? Just BAD! Plugged in its also lifeless and thin. I put a set of handwound PAF clones in the guitar, and not much improvement. I called Wade up. And described what I needed. I told him the problems, how I need a far bar meatier set to compensate the guitar???s crappiness. A lot of bass and mid, less treble response, but still remaining very airy and semi-hollow sounding.

He told me he will do a completely custom wind for me, with all this in mind. He made the bridge PU hotter, and darker tonally. They turned out to be A5 based.

Sound : 10
I installed them, and what a change to the tone of the guitar. The bridge is now full sounding, excellent mid and bass response, and adequate trebles, JUST like I requested. It sounds very gentle when played clean, quite acoustic-like. Through a cranked up JCM800, it has a fat LP style vibe, really broad frequency range that cuts through in the band mix.
The neck PU is by far the one I prefer though, on clean, it is too sweet, clear, articulate and warm. You really had to hear the Epiphone BEFORE the pickups were in to appreciate how amazing they are. I have a 81 Gibson 335 and now the Epiphone has a sweeter neck and middle tone than it. With distortion, it is not muddy, but moans and screams at the same time.

I did one rehearsal with the guitar and already one gig last night as the MAIN guitar, had great feedbacks from the band and everyone else. The set had the proper frequencies to cut through the mix in the right places. Thanks again for the great set Wade!

Overall Rating : 10
I will replace them if they are lost or broken... 100%! I use Tom Holmes humbuckers in other guitars, and only MCP stands up to those. Here is his website!
