Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: 1985 Jackson Soloist
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: original Jackson S-100 single coilis
Other pickups on guitar: N/A
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Modern electric guitar
Reason for pickup change: Wanted to try out the boutique pickup makers and see if they live up to their hype

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Traditional late 60's strat output levels
Tone: All the bases are covered, nice tight full lows, very smooth mid-range and smooth high-end that goes up for miles
Sonic evaluation: I run the Jackson Soloist into a VHT Pittbull Ultra-Lead driving a 2x12 Celestion Vintage 30 closed back cab and 2x12 Eminence loaded bass cabinet with a variety of effects. I asked OC DUFF to wind me a set that would achieve the particular sound I was looking for. OC DUFF was able to absolutely nail what I wanted in tone. I found out about OC DUFF on the Telecaster Discussion page and found numerous posts that indicated that he was able to translate your "description of the tone you wanted" into pickups. I agree totally that OC DUFF is able to do exactly that.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Primarily Pentatonic based, however all types of electric guitars tones are fair game. OC Duff's pickups do it all from clean to ultra high gain tones.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: For those of you considering boutique single coil pickups, I strongly recommend that you contact OC Duff at www.ocduffpickups.com. His ability (in my opinion) to wind a pickup that is the tone you want-rather than take someone else's version of what "your" tone should be- sets OC DUFF apart from all the others. Given the level of service and my satisfaction with his pickups, I would add, that you might want to hurry! With his skill, he is going to get a lot of orders!

Features :
Pickup features: Handwound Single Coils ; calibrated set for Strat w/ reverse wound middle
Impedence or other specs: Neck: 6.0 ohm, alnico V magnet, Middle: 6.2 ohm, alnico V ; Bridge 7.0 ohm alnico III

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: '62 Fender Strat re-issue
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: '94 American Standard set
Other pickups on guitar: n/a
Artists using this pickup: The Old Boot Band ; Suckerfish, etc,,,
You musical style(s): Country, Rock and Blues
Reason for pickup change: The endless quest for "perfect tone"

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hand Wound, using both materials and techniques remenicent of Leo Fender's original '54 strat pickups. Neck and bridge NAILS that vintage sound. Bridge is slightly hotter (by my request) and has a unique Strat/Tele hybrid tone.
Tone: Balanced! Amazingly articulate in all 5 positions. The bridge p'up cuts through without any of the shrieking harshness I had grown to hate from my American Standards.
Sonic evaluation: For larger halls and outdoor shows I use two Fender Hot Rod Deluxe's in stereo. For smaller venues I use either a single Hot Rod or a Carvin Nomad 112 (great amp, btw.) Recording recemtly with a '56 Fender deluxe and the aforementioned amps. I recently tried a PODxt. and was impressed. My signal chain is Boss Chromatic tuner -> Maxon Comp/Limiter -> Modded Ibanez TS9 -> EH Phase -> Arion stereo analog delay-> Amp(s)

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Country, Rock, Blues. Pefect fit, built to my exact specs! Since these are made one at a time specifically for you, you have complete control over what they will sound like.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: I have used and replaced stock Fenders, Lace Sensors and EMG's trying to get "The Tone". I find these superior to all those. I was going to spend $ 220.00 + on a set of Fralin's, but sure am glad I found OC Duff! I would absolutely buy them again!
I have been playing for 20 + years both proffesionally and semi-profesionally. I play primarily strats and teles, usually through smaller combo tube amps.
Above and beyond the graet product at an unbeleivable price, dealing with Owen (founder, and the guy who wraps these things for you)is a real pleasure. Prompt delivery, courteous, and a total tone nut like the rest of us! If you are considering taking the plunge into a high end boutique pick-up, check these out!
