Features :
Pickup features: Single
Impedence or other specs: 6.5 ohms

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: '98 Fender Stratocaster
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Gold Fender Lace Sensor bridge pickup
Other pickups on guitar: Gold Fender Lace Sensors
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Folk/Rock/Hendrix
Reason for pickup change: Something to cut above the mix and bring more clarity to my tone.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Slightly less than the laces
Tone: trebley and middy
Sonic evaluation: I go from a strat through a boss tuner, Line 6 DL4, an Ibanez TS9, and finally through a custum made orange squeezer compressor. My amp is 1956 Fender Vibrolux.
The Vibrolux gives a fanastic brown tone which is warm and it kinda envelopes you, especially with the tremolo. Coupled with the TS-9, I get a great jazzy, organic sound, heavy on the mid range. The problem with my current lace pickups is that they are not articulate enough when I need to cut above the mix. I need something that really pops and is bright and chimey, to get above the mix during solos. So I got a custum pickup from OC Duff

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I am into Folk/Rock/Hendrix/U2. I only got a bridge pickup

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: Its hard to beat getting something completely custom made and tailored to your needs, especially hand made. OC Duff was very knowledgable and knew exactly what to do when I described the tone I wanted, especially since I am an electronics ignoramous. He even gave me soldering tips so I wouldn't screw up my guitar. Its hard to argue with service like that!!
The bridge pickup that I got from OC Duff is much more clear than the lace sensor pickup. This is especially true with the clarity of the low end tone, which was very mediocre on the lace. It is more articulate. You can hear the popping of the string when you pluck. It pretty much meets all my needs that I was looking for as far as tone is concerned!

Features :
Pickup features: Single Coil - Passive - Strat Bridge
Impedence or other specs: 6.8K

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Tokai 1983 Jap Strat Copy
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Stock Tokai (5.6K)
Other pickups on guitar: Bridge & Neck both also 5.6K
Artists using this pickup: None YET !
You musical style(s): Brit Rock
Reason for pickup change: Great guitar from the classic Tokai period but fancied something a bit hotter in the bridge to drive those tubes a bit harder !!

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hotter than your average Strat pickup but not as hot as a humbucker (obviously !) or P90
Tone: Pretty 'trebly' but with real bite and clarity... think Tele on steroids !
Sonic evaluation: I've a mixture of solid state (Marshall Lead 12 and 75 Reverb) and valve (Peavey Classic 20 & Mesa Boogie MKIII Simulclass both with Mullards - lucky ain't I ?) these amps and have never struggled to get a great sound. My Tokai has always been a 'mess-around guitar' and has always had an 'ok' sound but with the 'Duff' installed it goes to another dimension... biting, clear and altogether great sounding, now rivals my pointy Charvel, which is not bad for something that looks like Hank Marvin would be happy with it !!

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I've always been looking for a single coil Strat that's truly got the power to ROCK without adding a humbucker in the bridge (not even the JB Jnr which changes 'the look' of the guitar ) This is it ! It simply jangles and in position 4, mixed with the middle p/u it absolutely sings... sheer bliss !

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: Would I replace it if stolen ? - I've just ordered my second one so at Owen's prices of 'course I would ! These are an ABSOLUTE BARGAIN compared with the competition...
Try asking 'Mr Duncan' if you can have a pickup custom made to YOUR exact chosen output, with YOUR choice of alnico 3 or 5, staggered, flat, bevelled or non-bevelled polepieces ! With Owen you decide & he'll make it (or he'll also make recommendations if you're unsure)... this level of attention almost makes you feel like a 'name player'...this really is absolute 'boutique' stuff & its great to see that hand-inked OC Duff moniker on the bottom of the bobbins and know you've got something handmade & very special !
