Features :
Single coil Strat pickups

Instrument :
These pickups were installed on a MIM Fender Strat in all three positions. Pickups being replaced were another set of Duff's - not because they werent good, I just wanted to try these number ones for a different tone.

Sound : 10
The output level is just like most single coils. I never hear that much of a difference. Besides, if its a little lower, just turn your amp volume up a little.

I play these through a deluxe reverb reissue and guitarport.

This set is an exact replica of a 1959 set of Fender pickups. In those days they varied alot in windings but these are what were reported to be in Stevie's main axe.

These pickups have a tone that is right in there with the late fifties and early 60's tone. They have a good bit of warmth and deepness to all positions, especially the neck. They are also very "sweet" sounding to my ears. They have a good roundness to the note as well, not a whole ton of edge, but enough is there when you pick it out. They are very detailed and touch sensitive.

They also sound alot like Rory Gallagher's strat tones especially if you have an AC-30. He had a thick sounding neck position with alot of cojones and this neck can do those tones easily.

I play alot of blues, instrumental/melodic type stuff almost classical at times, some rock.

I think they can cover just about anything but its still in the vintage range. So as usual, dont buy these for heavy rock or metal. They do however sound good for blues, country, alot of rock, and the neck position sounds great for jazz if you finger pick!

Overall Rating : 10
I would totally get another set of these pickups. They are a special set for sure.

I have been playing for about 13 years but only seriously for about 6. I own another CS NOS 60 strat and some pedals. Basically though I just play straight into the DRRI. The strat with the number ones gets as much if not more playing time than the CS 60. Both are great sounding though.

These pickups deliver a great vintage tone. A specific few years mostly. Theres alot of other great strat tones out there too. I like most of them. I like to try different sets for fun, these are up there with the best though, if not "number one" har har har...

If you want to hear these pickups, go to Owen Duff's website www.ocduffpickups.com

He has sound clips of me playing these on his sounds page. If you have questions or want more sound clips just email me!
