Impedence or other specs: Neck 7.5K, Bridge 8.5k Alnico V magnets Neck is RWRP

Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Old wave rythym and blues
Reason for pickup change: Std SD P90's were way to hot for my taste. I play through EL-34 based amps and the std pups were way to hot to get the loud clean tones I like
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Underwound especially compared to the SDs
Tone: Crisp, Clear well balanced
Sonic evaluation: I installed these in my Hamer 93 Special while waiting for my Thorn to be completed. I'm no going to take em out either as they match well to the Hamer Special format, think Mahogony LP Double cut. The std pups were always way into distortion with my amps and the neck was very muddy to boot. The Duffs which were under wound as per my request provide for a nice clean tone with the volume backed off but deliver smooth distortion with the volume cranked to 10. Middle postion with th evolume controls balanced provide noise canceling since the neck pup is RWRP. With separate volume controls for each pickup there are a wide variety fo tones available in the middle position.

Comments: I would buy this combination again and it's my 3rd set of Duffs and it's based on my previous experience with Duffs in his traditional domain that led me to take a chance on these. The construction is a little different than other P90's but he uses high quality materials and these are well crafted. The 2 conductor lead could stand to be an inch or so longer for my application.
This is a followup from my prior review
Despite what Mr Anonymous has to say the only affiliation I have with OC Duff is that of a very staisfied user.

Comments: These is in response to the previous 2 postings. Sounds like OC either responded back himself or paid someone to help protect his reputation and sales. Why else would they type something about the way my experience was handled and rip me? Get a life. I'm telling my experience the way it happened to me and the review of a respectable pickup builder who reworked Duff's mistakes and who explained to me why both pickups FAILED. AND my guitar tech who've I've been going to for the past 15 years that has done OUTSTANDING work without a hitch, who has an OUTSTANDING reputation as a guitar tech, can hardly be blamed as he came up with the same solution as SD Pickups for the problems, which sounds like an easy excuse to use if you had built these poorly constructed pickups. And for both techs to come up with the same solution and for SD Pickups to fix the problem, takes the blame off of my guitar tech as the so called reviewers below would like to accuse.
Maybe your experience with Duff pickups was alright but mine was inexcusable, especially when Duff did not want to take responsibility. If you want names and email addresses for verification of this experience, email me at the address NOW included which you can ask the techs for yourself why OC Duff pickups FAILED.

Comments: I'm posting this review as a counter point to the anonymous review found just prior to this one. The pups are done and in the hands of my builder. I purchased these based on OC Duff's ability to absolutely nail the tone I was looking for on a tele set they built for me.
The only point I can make at this time is the observation from my builder when he inspcted them.
"they look very well made. Interesting construction too.
I'm looking forward to hearing them."
I find it interesting that the other reviewer here has choosen to make his attack on OC Duffs pups but doesn't have the nerve to include his ID.

Reason for pickup change: Wanted something better ;)
The HfH was quite boring and lacked charakter and I just wanted to try something diffrent.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: More then the original SC pickups. And they got much more punsh in the midrange then the HfH so they sound more powerful...
Tone: Rock is the first word I can think of. The tone is powerfull and very full sounding.
Sonic evaluation: I've used it straight into my Laney VC50(a 2 channel valve amp with switchable drive on both channel).
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: The pickup got a good rock sound very inspiring, it leans toward 70's rock.(I think!). Works well with the clean channel to. There is lot of definition and it doesn't easily get muddy with the drive channel.

Comments: The best pickup that I've had in this guitar so far! I've had:
The original tokai stratocaster pickups.
Seymour duncan; JB jr, Little 59 and custom custom.
Dimarzio; Humbucker from Hell and Evolution.
Tom Anderson: h1+ and h3
Owen Duffs pickups are the one I liked the most. They suite the guitar very well and they got a more balanced and living tone then the others. The other pickups that I've tried falls a bit short in the livingness thing... The are all okey sounding but the lack an inspiring tone. And regarding the review before me, I don't think Owen did send a none working unit. It could how every broke during the shipping or the tech could also be the problem... But I'm not the one to judge. With all the happy telecaster guitarists I've read about I'm pretty sure this guy just had very very bad luck. If the Duff p-90 is 100% made to vintage specs I have no idea but I don't care they sounds good so I don't care. I should probably state that I've never tried a P-90 before so if they'll give you an authentic P-90 tone I don't know.

Comments: OK, here goes: First and foremost, these pickups are total crap! When I received them I took them to my guitar tech who installed them and couldn't get a usable output from them. After much frustration he finally relinquished and informed me that he couldn't do anything to get more output from the pickup but told me he noticed that the P-90's were constructed in a way he's never seen before and probably has a lot to do with the way it's performing. Realizing we couldn't do anything else, I contacted Duff. Basically he was trying to blame my guitar tech for messing it up and was trying to wash his hands from his pickups. Well, seeing that I paid for these POS's I decided maybe I could salvage them and have them rebuilt. So I sent them to SD Pickups and Dave told me he never saw anything like that before. He said the magnets were misplaced causing the problems I was having. Creating P-90s are new for Duff and this experience has proven that. BEWARE AND LOOK ELSEWHERE!
