Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: a little more than a "standard" Strat bridge
Tone: Great! Very balanced. Extremely good bass response.
Sonic evaluation: I asked Mr. Duff to make me a Strat bridge pickup that had some of the characteristics of an old 50s Nocaster bridge pickup, one that would work well with the Lollars I had for the neck and middle position. I sent him an MP3 file of the sort of sound I had in mind. About two weeks later, I got my No-Stratter pickup in the mail. What can I say, the pup was made to my specifications and sounds as good, if not better, than I could have expected. No only do I how have a great, harmonically "deep" bridge pickup, but it works well with the middle Lollar pup to give a great "quack" sort of sound.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great pup for anyone who wants a touch of "Nocaster" sound while playing a Strat type of guitar.

Comments: My "No-Stratter" pup as close to perfection as I could imagine for the style of music I plan to play on the guitar (think Rodney Crowell for a reference). I have had Fender Custom Shop, Fralin, Duncan, etc. pups in other guitars. This is my favorite bridge pickup. I really don't think you can get a better pickup than a Duff, regardless of how much it costs. Of course, there are lots of great pickups, but the ease of having a pickup made to meet your needs puts Duff at the top of the heap for me.

Pickup features: Single Coil passive
Impedence or other specs: 5.8
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: American Strat
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Fender AY custom shop
Other pickups on guitar: Fender AY custom shop
Artists using this pickup: n/a
You musical style(s): Jazz, '60's
Reason for pickup change: Bought 3 AY customs, broke 1
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Matched the AY's-hotter than stock Delta tones
Tone: Clear, sweet, and harmonically rich.
Sonic evaluation: I broke the wire on a custom shop '69 pickup, and decided to try one of Owen's as a replacement. He wound the pickup with alnicos to the custom shop specs, a little hotter for the bridge. The O. C Duff is clear, sweet, and full of harmonics. I play an American strat through a Silvertone 1472 (2x6v6), and Owen's pickup sings sweet and clear. I wish I had found him sooner, so I could have bought all 3 pickups from Owen.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Good for any strat style of music - blues, rock, jazz.

Comments: The custom shop (AY) signed pickups are better than the stock Delta Tones, but the O.C Duff pickup is better yet. Price is comparable, so I wish I had bought a whole set from Owen. I'd love to hear what he could to the neck pickup. Someday I hope to find out.
