Features
:
Pickup features: single coil
Impedence or other specs: 6.7 (I think)
Instrument
:
Model of guitar or bass: MIJ Tele photoflame
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: '52 re-issue (supposedly)
Other pickups on guitar: middle - Van Zant single coil, neck - DiMarzio stacked hunbucker
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): classic blues/rock - Clapton, ZZ Yop
Reason for pickup change: The '52 had a pretty good "honk" sound but was a little noisy. I was going to pot wax it when I saw the Duff P/U on E bay already waxed for under $50. Since I was taking out the P/U anyway, decided to try the Duff.
Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: About the same volume as the neck and middle. Very articulate and musical. More so than the '52. Doesn't have the honk or quack of the '52 but has increadible harmonics. This is where this P/U shines. The harmonics jump off the strings especially with the P/U turned up. This is the perfect P/U for my needs.
Tone: Very balanced, rich in harmonic overtones.
Sonic evaluation: MIJ photoflame Tele with three pickups through an Ibanez TS-7 tube screamer, Boss RV-3 reverb/delay, Boss CE-5 chorus (sometimes) then into a Sovtek tube midget 50 into a Carvin 112 cab. I have two of these amp setups and sometimes run them in stereo.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues and classic rock. This P/U is a great match for these styles.
Overall Rating
:
10
Comments: I would definately buy more of these pickups, especially at this price. Have been playing since 1974. I love the harmonics, turn it all the way up and you can get Van Halen sounds easily. I am satisfied with this P/U and Duff is very helpful by answering E-mails. A great find on EBay
