Reason for pickup change: I liked my fender pickup, somewhat...It didn't give me the clarity I knew a handwound would, and it was a little stiff. Hell, it even had transparent tape over the windings (WTF is up with that??) Owen has helped me with pickups before for my stratocaster, and I knew he could do a great job getting me the tone I was after, and, the quality would be unsurpassed.

Perceived output level: around 6k-ish. Vintage Tele Neck sound.
Tone: Clear as a bell and well, perfect.
Sonic evaluation: This pickup is absolutely wonderful. No more search of the tone I was hoping for with crap boutique pickups. I like playing through tube amps, and this pickup gets every little bit of tone pouring through the amp. Clear sounds beautiful, and overdriven...well...sounds even more wonderful.
Sounds like a mid-late 60's tele neck pickup. And made to the same specs, though, by that time, Fender had stopped winding pickups by hand, so maybe this is a little better...? I'm happy :)
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Blues. I use my tele for slide work (high action, 13g strings etc)

Comments: In my letter to owen after recieving, and trying my pickup, the first words I wrote were, "holy crap!" I found the tone I had been looking for. Owen delivered very nicely, and the turnaround time was very minimal as well. He'll answer (just about) any question you can ask him to get the tone you want. He worked with me extensively and took time to answer all my questions. What a great freakin guy! And somehow...maybe magic, witchcraft..something..he's able to get the mojo vibe. If my pickup was lost, or stolen...well..if it were stolen, I'd kill the theif and take my pickup back. And if it were lost, well, of course I'd get another! A handwound pickup, at a $74 price tag, INCLUDING shipping...wow. Doesn't get any better than that. Get your pickups from this guy, he knows his stuff!
