Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Custom Flying-V
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: New installation
Other pickups on guitar: Voodoo '60 Treble, Gibson vintage mini-humbucker (middle)
Artists using this pickup: Mark Tremonti
You musical style(s): Metal and Power Blues
Reason for pickup change: I choose this PU because it's the Dragon 2000 Bass renamed but kept it because of it's fairly low output yet bluesy tone.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Vintage mid-Hot, perfect output for a cleaner neck PU.
Tone: Middy enough to provide some thickness but very balanced. Not as punchy as the Dragon and definitely not as trebley as the Dragon II.
Sonic evaluation: A newly built Custom '67 Flying-V specially designed for Blues and slide playing. A cross between an LP and a Firebird with minis. Amps are JCM 600 and JCM 800. Previously I used the Tremonti Bass in a Double Fat Strat and a 'Albert Collins' type Tele with the above amps and a Budda Superdrive 30. The Tremonti Bass has now become the 1st PU that I grab for a Neck PU swap. It get's moved around because it doesn't have the possibility to split or parallel the coils.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great neck PU for my humbucker neck Blues playing.

Overall Rating : 9
Comments: I've been trying different neck PUs for 10+ years and I've been ultimately and unknowingly envisioning the tone of the Tremonti Bass. I strongly recommend this PU to players looking for that sweet Les Paul neck PU tone. Even though it's thick sounding it's by no means 'muddy'. This PU is made like other PRS PUs which means you can take someone down if you toss it hard enough. It's the modern version of the pre-62 alnico 5 large magnet PAF neck PU but with a tighter bass string tone. It simply sings the Blues. I give it a 8.5 because I find it's mislabeled and should return to it's rightful name within the PRS Dragon family. Seriously, the punchier PRS Dragon is my favorite neck PU which gets the 10.
