Comments: If this thing were stolen I would do whatever I had to (within reason and legal) to get another one. I've been playing 5 years but very early on became a tone freak. I am through searching for (that) tone. I am completely satisfied with the wolfgang-Voodoo combination. The other guitarist in my band playes a fender cyclone and a shecter(spelling) through a 5150. He always has to adjust his tone and add things to his rig to even get close to having the punishing tone that I have. If I ever have 2 or 3 days when I can't play when I come back and play again, I am just blown away all over again by the tone I get. I use to change strings every week just to stay somewhat satisfied with my sound now I wait at least 2 weeks. I know that's wierd but lets face it. Changing strings every week can begin to add up. This thing is just simply awesome!

Tone: Good Balance with Old eddie VH1 & 2 style mids. Fat bottom end.
Sonic evaluation: Wolfgang special thru a GT-5 processor thru a marshall 1987x 50 watt plexi reissue half stack, using NOS sylvania tubes. I practice in a 1000 sq. ft. basement so I have to roll off the bass a bit or objects start moving around the room a bit.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play 70's and 80's rock mainly. Good pick up for that style of music

Comments: I've been playing since 1976. This pickup comes stock on the wolfgang and wolfgang special. It's a good hot pickup with good range. You can get wild pinch harmonics from it and when it's palm muted it does a convincing metallica immitation. For those wanting to get *THAT* Early Ed tone with today's technology, you can forget about it. This PU and guitar combo won't do it. It will take you about 60% there but you still need an original 100 watt early 70's plexi with the drake transformers and a strat style guitar with a dimarzio super distortion PU in the bridge. As Dweezil Zappa said regarding Ed's early sound- "Ed just got the lucky piece of gear". That's why I wrote this review- because there's a lot of young players out there that need to know that the stuff Eddie endorses now-a-days ain't gonna give you his early tone, which is what everybody is after these days. He does endorse quality products however. I digress. This is a good pick up and I highly recommend it. It stands tall beside Duncans and Dimarzios. Just because Peavey isn't widely accepted as say Kramer or PRS, doesn't mean they don't make good gear. If you have a chance to pick up a used/trashed wolf, these PU's are good to scavenge from it to build your own "Frankenstein" guitar.
