Features :
As far as I know, the Peavey Super Ferrite is a

SINGLE COIL

passive pickup, that is the size of a humbucker (looks like an EMG).

Instrument :
Peavey Patriot, and Peavey T-15

Bridge and Neck, in both guitars

(Original Equipment)

Sound : 9
This is an excellent pickup, with loads of tone and character

Unique sound of it's own - some say it's a little like a P90

Excellent tone clean, nice crunch dirty

Bridge is bright (think "Bad To The Bone")

Neck is full and bluesy

Overall Rating : 9
I bought a T-15 for the pickups, and sold it to get a Patriot for the pickups and a bigger scale.

I've only been playing a few years.

The T-15 seemed to have more hum than the Patriot - not bad though.

About the same as a strat in the Bridge or Middle or Neck position.

The Patriot is pretty quiet - like a strat in the Bridge+Middle or Middle+Neck position.

I found this pickup just kicks butt, way better than a strat, IMHO.

Basically - it's so good that it's WHY I bought the guitar.

Features :
Pickup features: Humbucking (passive)
Impedence or other specs: Don't know

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Peavey Patriot
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: none
Other pickups on guitar: Super Ferrite
Artists using this pickup: Me, as soon as I get another Patriot!
You musical style(s): Heavy Metal in the Megadeth style.
Reason for pickup change: Both pickups were stock on the guitar when I bought it, many moons ago.

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: about the same as stock Les Paul pickups.
Tone: Great distorted tone, not too trebley, not too bassy
Sonic evaluation: When I had this guitar (stupid me sold it!), I had a Peavey Studio Chorus 210 and a 10' cable. The Patriot could do it all, the pickups had a great distortion tone, Megadeth's rhythm tone all the way. When the volume was turned down, I could get the "Smells like teen spirit" intro tone. I really like that guitar and those pickups!

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: This pickup is a great match for Metal and blues, and does surf OK too.

Overall Rating : 10
Comments: well, I am buying it again, so I guess that says how much I liked them. I've been playing for about 13 years, owned lots of gear, mostly cheap stuff. I don't hate anything about these pickups. I was completely satisfied with the peavey pickups, and can't for the life of me figure out why I sold the guitar! STUPID!!

Features :
Pickup features: Passive humbucker
Impedence or other specs: 11.92 kohm, three conductors

Instrument :
Model of guitar or bass: Homemade with mahogany body, bolt-on maple neck
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: N/A
Other pickups on guitar: none
Artists using this pickup: me?
You musical style(s): Odd, dissonant jazz
Reason for pickup change: These were the last working pickups in my parts bin...

Sound : No Opinion
Perceived output level: Hotter than Gibson humbuckers, but I've heard hotter
Tone: Bright for a humbucker, but more in an upper-midrange way than in a treble way
Sonic evaluation: I never use distortion and play into a clean solid-state amp. These are a lot clearer than most humbuckers and seem to have more snap, but unlike, say, a Duncan Jazz, have a more strongly colored sound. Single-coil tones are rather Jazzmasterish. Either way, the notes really jump out at you.
This pickup sounds very good in both single-coil and humbucking modes in the neck position, which is a very difficult thing to achieve - usually, either the single-coil sound lacks power or the humbucker is muddy (or both...) That's probably its best attribute.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Great in the neck on not-too-bright guitars, probably good in the bridge for distorted sounds

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Comments: Well, these were laying around, so I was thinking I'd give them a try - it's not like I sought these pickups out, or picked them out of a large selection. But I am very happy with the neck and middle position sounds. I'm not too keen on the bridge, but I rarely if ever use that alone, so I'm more interested in how it contributes to the middle position. I might swap out the bridge, but I'll probably keep the neck. I'd rate it at 4 for the bridge (slightly below average,
a stock Gibson 490 being an "average" or "typical" humbucker) and 8
for the neck.
