Sound
:
No Opinion
Perceived output level: Nice punchy and ballsy full coil sound, and sweet and zingy when tapped.
Tone: Balanced, with nice overtones. Very musical sounding.
Sonic evaluation: I needed a good bridge pickup on my tele, but couldn't decide between a punchy hot overwound pickup, or the zingy sound of a slightly underwound pickup (I like both, and both sounds are useful.) I have tried lots of pickups and didn't want any stacked HB or anything like that. I got this "Stellar T" tele bridge pickup from Rocket Pickups in Seattle, and installed it. The result is the best of both worlds. Using a push/pull tone pot, I can have a hot pickup or an underwound pickup. Really a nice sounding pickup on both settings. These are all custom made, hand 'scatter' wound pickups with the right kind of alnico magnets. The grounding plate on the bottom is steel, like it should be. I generally play Telecasters straight into vintage Fender amps.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play mostly blues, and I like the tapped position best. This pickup has great tone for everything that I need!

Comments: I would definitely get this pickup again, it really gives me more options than a normal pickup. I love how well built this pickup is, all of the leads are "gooped" so that they can't break, and the coil is wrapped in pickup tape. It is also wax potted. I am totally satisfied with this pickup.
