Samick 4 str. electric bass made sometime in the 80's, hence it's pointy headstock! Korean made (I am going from what I remember from when I bought it...lotsa water under the bridge since then). 24 fret neck. Orig. came with active electronics, Vol, Blend, Bass, Treb. It now carries Carvin electronics with Active / Passive pull up volume knob, blend, bass, mid, treb. P/J config. Maple neck ebony fretboard and some 'Oh-so-80's' lightning bolt inlays starting at the 1st fret. Finish is a gloss white with black around the pickups. Orig Samick tuners, neck is chucky compared to Fender Jazz.

This has been a workhorse. I've beat the tar outta this thing for 15 years, gigs, practices, falls, sweat, dust, cigarette smoke...it just keeps coming back for more. I play everything from punk to funk to R&R to hard rock and the P/J set has treated me great. I am currently using it (and all my basses) through a split signal chain Fender M-80 (160w) head I took out of a combo through a 15" Black Widow (Eq'd to handle lower freq.) and a head from a Peavey Mark III combo (115w) through a Peavey 4x10.(for the mid's & highs) I use an old beat-up distortion pedal on the highs / mids for the heavier music and clean signal for everything else. The sound has improved with the additon of the Carvin active / passive electronics. 3 band EQ gives me more flexibility. I haven't changed the settings on my amps in 3 years, I prefer to EQ from the guitar. No walking back to the amps and tweaking. It's worked well in both live and studio settings. I just wish it would get more of a 'woody' tone when funking it up....but I have a new bass for that!

Factory setup? Don't remember! I've put it through different setups over the years. When I was doing more metal I had the action fairly high since I rarely use a pick and get aggressive as hell pulling on the strings. I've calmed down a bit and the action is pretty low, neck still straight although the frets, once perfect are showing signs of wear from 10 years of stainless strings. Especially where I used to pull off most of my bends. Pickups have been raised and lowered along with the rest of the action.

I've beat the crap out of this bass for 15 years and it has never failed me. The only problem I had was with stings, but that's not the guitars fault. The hardware all has some tarnish from wear and humidity and sweat over the years. The finish has held up great. Strap buttons have been replaced with straplocks and the top button moved to the back of the upper horn. I have giged with this without a back many times, never a problem. (altho I ALWAYS have backup strings!)

I've been playing for 25 years. I have, in addition to the above mentioned frankenstein amp setup, a Cort Artisan B4 (Say what you will about Cort.. this is a badass bass!), Galveston Hazze Wazeen 4str, Some no name acoustic bass I picked up for an outdoor 'unplugged' gig. Had a Mexi Jazz Delux V but sold that since I left wasn't playing as much metal and had no need for a 'B'...I wish I kept that and just restrung EADGC.... If it were lost or stolen I track the person down and stab them to death with the pointy headstock, wipe off the blood, and go gig. This was orig. bought to keep up my playing when my wife was sick but for years has been my main bass with 3 different bands

I bought mine from a friend who finds it too fat (he plays rythmn). Its a strat copy, 22 frets on fat maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. Body is made of plywood (I would prefer solid wood). Its made in Korea. Its painted cream, very durable.

This samick sounds fat even at the bridge position. I have to back off bass control to zero when playing swing. I play all types of music except rap, and it sounds great. It goes to a tons of effects: dunlop crybaby(chrome)->DOD stereo chorus->MXR flanger (LUSH!!!)->Marshall drivemaster(it ROCKS!)->arion tube master(the BEST!!!)->lazer phaser->ibanez soundtank digital delay -> to a noname solid state amp. With all these effects, it doesn's sound noisy at all, well, there's a noise but ITS tolerable. Positions bridge+middle is best for fat sustaining leads. Bridge position is best for crunch rythmn. It sounds great on almost every type of music. A solid body should have made this guitar exceptional.

Samick uses computers in building their guitars, so quality is not a problem. Strings could be set up close to the frets but i set mine a little higher so i could dig deeper. I set my pickups with the bass side deep into the pick guard (to lessen the bass). Every bit looks quality except the body (you could see the ply lines beneath the paint.

The neck is solid rock, I have dropped it many times and it never detunes. This is important bec. i tune using my ears (not electronic tuners). I've been using it for 3 years now, the paint (white) becomes a little aged, which is cool. During gigs, I always have a backup guitar (fs aria pro II strat copy), just in case i broke some strings.

I've been playing electrics since I was 12 years old (im now 33). I've been through fenders strats (korea), ibanez (strat copy similar to one used by the 2 air supply guitarists, japan), vantage, aria pros, but this is the best so far. The ibanez sounds great but frets are already worn out. I've been wanting a real fender since i was a kid (US made of course!!!), but they cost a lot. A new ibanez would have been great but they cost more than samick. If ill be buying another guitar and its made in korea, ill go for another samick, they are the manufacturer of most, if not all guitar brands which are made in korea!!!

Perceived output level: Not a great amount of output compared to the neck pickup in My Peavey T-60
Tone: Tone is kind of middy but the high frequencies are sharp and thin sounding
Sonic evaluation: Samick Valley Arts Pro Telecaster Copy into a Peavey Heritage VTX
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: For the blues and country I play it is okay but I want a better sounding pickup, in my honest opinion this pickup is of an extremely poor quality.

Comments: If it shorted out or opened or if some idiot went to the trouble of stealing it I would feel extremely sorry for him.I would not buy a pickup like this if I knew in advance that the sound just wasn't going to be there.
I've been playing for 36 years and own 6 different guitars and the Peavey T-60 is my main Guitar.
I'm still searching for the pickup that sounds like the one in my brother-in-law's 1955 Les Paul.

looks like a p bass with an ugly headstock. just about as basic as you can get...one pick-up, volume and tone knobs. no idea when it was made; sometime in the past 75 years i suppose. no idea of the model..it just says "samick" in big ugly letters on the headstock.
Sound

decent sound for what it is..not that much varience though. good to practice on though.

hehe...the strings are set to about an inch above the fretboard to eliminate all the buzzes. makes playing kinda tricky. the neck was warped very badly when i got it. its very heavy too. i bought this to practice on...i normally use a much lighter bass with low action. the samick serves its purpose.

I play metal(Death,Metallica,Anonymus(you don't know that group hey!)). I use a metal zone with a crappy amp. It sound great. The humbucker has a really high output that create more sustain than other guitars that i've played.

I love it because I have to play with guitars that cost 1000$ to have the same confortability on the neck. I have only one single coil and one humbucker but, I always play with the humbucker, so why pay 700$ for a two humbucker one single coil guitar when for more playability and less pickups you can pay 450$ or 500$ (I think this is the price for my guitar not used)
