Sound
:No Opinion
Perceived output level: Not too high, definitely not as high as the DG-20 set in my strat, but those are active. Tone: Rich, warm, not harsh at all, very pleasant, but plenty of definition. Sonic evaluation: I'm using these in a schecter "S" PT, into a boss DD-2 delay, Johnson tremolo, BBE 382 sonic maximizer into a trace elliot super tramp. Not the highest quality setup, but pretty decent for a college student. Personally, I love these pickups. They are a little quiet, and I get a tiny bit of hum, but not as much as you'd expect. They are more pleasant to listen to than the EMGs, I love EMGs, but these sound more natural and less artificial. They have planty of definition, but are very warm, not great for shredding, (duh) but really good for rock in general, if you catch my drift. I would definitely say that these outperform pickups in your standard mexi fender tele. If you can find a set somewhere, go for it.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play some of everything. These pickups definitely pull their own weight.
Overall Rating
:9
Comments: Well, these came with the guitar, which I didn't play unamplified before I bought, so it's not like I sought them out. But I think that they are definitley better than I expected from a used $400 guitar. I'd give em a 9.

Perceived output level: Higher output than standard singles, but normal when tapped. Tone: When tapped, typical single coil sound, otherwise great fat high output tone. Sonic evaluation: These pu?s can?t be praised enough. I don?t care for all this so called "Vintage" rubbish. Never heard so much bullshit in my whole life. Tone is not copyable, it?s a very personal thing. I?ve been trying to achieve a tone, close to SRV?s, but I don?t want it to be exactly the same! These pu?s are very versatile in that you can change from high output to normal, just by pulling the tone pot. If you have your amp set at slight crunch, while the pu?s are tapped, you can hit the tone pot and go straight into heavy crunch, without stepping on any pedals! These came fitted with a 500k volume pot, so the highs are retained even when in the high output position.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I think these would be suitable for anything apart from all out metal.

Comments: I tried SD antiquity?s, Rio Grande?s, Fender Texas Specials etc.
They all had less "tone". These pu?s have a single ceramic magnet under the metal poles. This means you can raise the pick-up higher to the strings without causing "stratitis", because the magnet pull on the strings is much weaker. They are shielded with copper tape too, looks great! I don?t know if these are available without buying a Schecter Guitar? But I would buy them again if damaged.
Don?t believe all the "vintage" or "retro" hype that?s going around today. It?s unbelievable, the lengths some makers go to, just to sell you their NEW products.
The "right" tone for you, is what wins at the end of the day, and you don?t need any expensive "vintage" this or "klon" that or "this is the same alnico 2 or 5 that they used to use" shit.
Don?t get ripped off, they are all doing it!!
