Features :
This is supposed to be a high gain Custom wound Number Ed did as per EVH spec's. Folks it is pretty much sounds just like a Custom Custom. I am just short of buying another Custom Custom just so I can disassemble the two and compare. I'm sure there will be an extra winding or two but that would be about it. A little of Ed's fingernail polish on the back and mo money mo money mo money for Ed.

Instrument :
The pickup is in bridge position of an Ed Roman Abstract, they did the install and it shows. It replaced a better plan of utilizing a Bill Lawrence. I've played Duncan Demons for years, PAF's, JB's, and a few others. Ed Talked me into it (note his site suggest to buy them in pairs, this way Ed's dumping them twice as fast.

Out put= medium heavy midrange presence.
it's a paper weight future Ebay fodder.
Tonality = Custom Custom ok if you wanted a Custom Custom.
I play everything from Slayer to ABBA and a lot inbetween. These pickups work for someone else I suppose.
This pickup would be great in a Walmart First Act guitar, or a Hello Kitty guitar.

Folks who can not understand why "everyone" flames Ed must have had better luck than those who harbor distain for that Vegas Sham and share their experiances. Hey Ed has not been good to everyone who has decided to shop with him and as time goes on Ed has become worse. If you buy from him do so in person you might do better, but if you do it over the internet you are likely to regret various aspects of the "deal" if not the entire sale.

I have this pickup in one of my custom Kramer guitars. It is in the bridge position. I have used a Seymour Duncan Custom 78 (EVH), Seymour Duncan Custom Custom, and a Seymour Duncan JB in the same position on this guitar.

Sound : 10
The tone is awesome. I'm not sure how to describe it. It has a nice warm brown sound--with slightly less treble than the Custom 78. It gives a nice balance of mids / highs. If you are looking for an Van Halen style brown sound, this pickup does it almost perfectly. I'm not sure what the prior reviewer was saying--this is a completely DIFFERENT sound than a custom-custom.

Overall Rating : 10
Again, I'm not sure on all the "slamming" of Ed Roman. He has made a couple of guitars for me, which have all turned out fantastic. He's been really easy to work with. I mean, come on the guy may have a rough manner, but he's just trying to make a living. I like the stuff that he has done for me. As for this particular pickup--if you want a brown sound, it's the pickup for you.

Features :
Humbucking, passive. Neo-Dymium magnets, which are supposed to be more powerful than the Alnico magnets. Have a set for the neck and bridge.

Instrument :
Installed in Heritage H-150CM.

Sound : 10
These pickups are amazing. I'm not quite sure what the reviewer below means when stating that they are low output. I have guitars with the SD 59's and seth lovers, and these I feel have more output than the others. They sound similar to the SD Jazz and Custom Custom, but slightly hotter. The distortion is amazing. Can get a wide variety of sound, ranging from Allman Bros to GNR. Played clean, these pickups are crystal clear. Do not have to worry about getting muddy at all. I must say, I am incredibly overjoyed thus far.

Overall Rating : 10
Bottom line, I think these are great pickups. But as with anything else, depends on your ear.

Comments: supposedly ed roman modifies these pick ups. after my purchase, i spoke with an inside source at ed romans & he confessed that the only thing done to this p/u is being dipped in black paint. I can purchase a custom custom at guitar center for 60.00.........
DO NOT BUY THIS PICK UP FROM ED ROMAN!!!! Save your money. not that its a bad pick up, its just a scam. instead buy or make a custom 5 from a custom or custom custom & alnico 5 magnet from a jb.
