I couldn't believe my ears. I dropped this into a guitar that has always been too damn twangy and harsh. Even the Dimarzio Tone Zone had a twangy quality to it.
The sound is absolutely amazing. I don't think you have ever heard anything this powerful and articulate.
Playing through a heavily modified 6505+ and a 1960A with hellatone 30s/75's in an X pattern with Monster cables. No effects.
There is an "AWW" effect to single notes, and the output boost is like nothing on earth. My gain was always set on 6, now it's on 3. This has THAT much output. Bringing down the preamp also means LESS NOISE. This pickup is a godsend.
NO NOISE NO NOISE NO NOISE!!!!
I cannot stress this enough. Unlike the EMG 81/85 pickups, this pickup has MASSIVE tone with no compensation regulation on the amp needed and absolutely no noise.
Forget about the clean channel. THIS WILL DISTORT YOUR CLEANEST CLEANS. How amazing is that? Your *****y super expensive 18 watt clean amp will eat itself.
The bass is tight but NOT cut. In fact it seems to be boosted. I play tuned down to drop C and every note is articulate with a "growly" characteristic thanks to the boosted midrange.
I'm so glad they brought down the top end without getting thin. Take the super 3, for example. It's got great output and awesome mids, but because it has no bottom end, it comes off very thin sounding.
The tone zone was awesome in that it gave a huge sound, but there was no way it could hang now that I've got these.
I've only a bridge pickup, by the way.
I play metal/rock. No bull****. No jazz. No blues. No covers. No **** rock.

This is it. This is the perfect pickup. For once I feel entirely secure boosting all of my presets and reducing my preamp all the way down to 3! The noise on my amp is gone and the noise from the guitar is as well! This pickup screams like no other. It has such a big, bold, articulate bottom end that is to die for. Sterile? Dude, IT'S ACTIVE. If you want warm, lush, organic tone- go buy a piano. No one buys BLACKOUTS METAL for the sake of reinventing white-man blues/jazz...

This is a humbucking active pickup. Replacement is simple if you have emg pickups with the quick connect cable. This pickup has a jumper in the back for loud and LOUDER. Warning, this pickup is very high output. Cleans are impossible with this, but hey, i NEVER use the bridge for cleans.

I installed this in my white gibson explorer 76 reissue. I originally put EMG active pickups, but i did not like the sterileness when i put the gain all the way and then volume all the way in the ultra channel of my 120watt peavey JSX amp head, so i bought an ahb-1 for the neck and an ahb-2 for the bridge. HAHA boy i got myself a brutal death metal/technical death metal MACHINE!!!!!

This is one of the most high output pickups ever. WAit, did i say one of, i ment IS the most high output pickup in the market!!! I have tried just about all high output pickups and they do not compare to this in output. I am using the ultra channel of my peavey JSX signature amp head. THe thing has a nice bass and mid range punch which is good cause i do not like over trebleness. Mids give a good punch when needed. But normally i put the treble all the way, gain all the way, bass almost all the way, mids half way which is why i like pickups with bassy and mid range response. Im using this pickup in the bridge.

If this pickup was destroyed, i would replace it, but i wouldn't throw a fit. Its just a pickup, now if it was the guitar then thats different story(Snort). I have been playing for a while. I play blues, rock n roll, heavy metal, brutal death metal, technical death metal, black metal, melodic death metal, thrash, and all that good stuff. I love that the pickup has so much power, yet it doesnt get muddy and it has a lot more tonality than emgs anyday!!!! I do wish it wasnt active, im more of a passive kinda guy(i favor dimarzio pickups especially the X2N) but this pickup is worth being active. This pickup is so loud that it makes the schaller hot stuff(which has an unbelievable amout of output) sound like a baby fart. I am very satisfied with this thing. I can't really explain my gear besides the fact that ALL my gear is high end. Im not that big of an effects guy, i think effects destroy your sound. The only effects i ever use are my boss ce5, ibanez ts808, mxr smart gate, mxr micro amp, dunlop zakk wylde crybaby wah, and thats about it. I own two tube amps which is my jsx head and my mesa express 5:50(large version). I have no problem for this pickup as i never use the bridge for cleans, but this pickups CANNOT clean up. This turns your clean channel to a natural overdrive, your crunch channel into pure distortion, and your lead channel, well, lets just say, your lead channel turns into WOOOOOHAAAAA hell breaking loose crazy. If you play metal, this is your best friend. This can't play anything else but the brootalz. Rock on

This is still pretty new so I'm not sure who is using it yet, other than me. I am replacing an EMG-HZ in my LTD Alexi 600SE, which only has one bridge pickup and one volume. I thought the HZ sounded muddy, so I switched. I thought about getting the AHB-1, but since the AHB-2 was new I thought I'd give it a try.

The output is very high. I read some old reviews for the livewires, and a fellow metal player said he had to turn down the gain. I couldn't understand anyone wanting to do that, but now I understand. I'm using a mesa 2;25 express head with a cab that has a 25w greenback speaker. On the clean channel it sounds like it is going to blow out the tubes; already a lot of fuzz. I just took the jumper off and it is a little more controllable now. On the burn channel the pickup sounds great. Most of the time in my basement I use the clean channel and a tonebone hot british. That sounds really great with this pickup - still very very hot. I have to have the gain on the hot british at 50% or so. Although when I turn down the volume slightly I can pick up a radio station, but I keep it at 100% anyway. That pickup with that guitar sounds great ; I can just play and play and never get tired of the sound. This is for metal and metal only as their website says. If you play metal you will love it.

The sound is absolutely great for metal. I love my EMG81s in my other guitars; I wouldn't say this one sounds better but it is different, and that is what I was looking for - a little variety. I expect Satan to stop by my house and ask to check out my rig. EMGs are nice because you can get that metallica clean sound. Forget cleans with this. I read a review for another pickup where the user said " I expect Satan to knock on my door to ask me to turn it down." He's going to ask me to turn this baby up.
