Features :
Passive humbucker.

Instrument :
Gibson Sonex Deluxe 180.
Bridge Position
I have no idea what the old pickup was. Originals are long gone.
Seymour Duncan JB SH4 in the neck.
I wanted a hot pickup to replace the muddy weak ones.

Sound : 8
HOT. really hot. It's also really bright. This guitar has always been dark and muddy, so a bright pickup is good for this guitar.

I play lots of styles -- I groomed this guitar for use with heavier music. This pickup is hot, and great as a screamy lead pickup. The nice surprise is that when the volume is dialed back the clean sound is actually nice. It's bright and clear. Not unlike a hot telecasterish sound. I meant for this guitar to be heavy, but the nice clean sound helps make it useful for more than just heavy stuff. I give it an 8 only because it is very bright -- which works for me, but may be a turn off for others.

Overall Rating : 8
I love that it's got a good bright clean sound that suits my guitar. The full volume distorted sound is pretty extreme IMO, but that's ok. Compared to the Seymour Duncan JB in the neck, this is hotter and brighter. It's got good cleans and the distortion sound is good for screamy metal-ish solos.

Humbucking passive pickup
Bridge:16.6 H
Neck:(wouldnt reomend it in this position) 12.7

Instrument :
90's Jackson Dinky (alder body)
bridge position
replaced a jackson stock humbucker
I've heard Gus G from firewind is using this pickup and Glen Drover former guitarist from megadeth used it as well, Oh and I do too!
my old pickup was ok for rythem but sucked for leads cuz it had NO SUSTAIN AT ALL, which this pick up thas tons of.

Sound : 9
This pickup is built for ultra high output with sustain that will last for days! I use a 212 mid 90's Randall RG Classic (almost dimebag tone) my guitar going into a EH Metal Muff , MXR 10-band EQ then a Boss ME-50 (just for the noise gate and the vol/wah. Its grate for playing metal which is what I use it for, but it cleans up real well on a straight clean sound with the vol. down just a bit. the tone is very bright with thick mids and a super tight bass responce. In my opinion it sounds best in the bridge position. But just a few days ago I installed a dimarzio 1 meg volume pot and now this thing SCREAMS! This pickup is truly great for almost every type of music even country, which was surprising to me (lol)!

Overall Rating : 10
If it were to stop working today I would definatly go buy another! I am sixteen and have been playing for about seven years and know more about this stuff than most the people and my local music store (lol)! I love the sustain and the unbelivevable thickness, there is nothing I hate about it but I am contantly in persuit of the perfect tone so Im using a dimarzio 1 meg (thats 1 million ohms people) for even more power and a CTS 250k tone for more warmth with a .o303uf 100v capacitor to keep that extra edge. I was originaly going to buy an evolution but this pickup takes the cake. with all the other gear I have a B-52 400 watt cab, and a basic dunlop wah.

I have a Black Epiphone Explorer i have replaced both pickups i dont know what the pickups indvidual name just know that it is called distortion mayhem i changed the epiphone pickups because i wanted some more clarity and harmonic response the old pickups also took a little bit of the low end from my guitar

Sound : 9
The output is high but you can do so much with these pickups with a little tweaking to me i play songs from coheed and cambria foo fighters b.b. king albert king lamb of god in flames and some other people
my setup simple right now it goes from my Explorer using Monster Rock cables to a Digitech Metal Master(dont use a lot) to a Solid State Raven 60 Watt amp
as i said these pickups have a wide variety of tone the clean is crisp and the distortion has a lot of bite but as i said you can get any sound you need

Overall Rating : 9
These pickups can cover any genre i guarantee it i thought they were going to be bad because of the cost for two pickups i was wrong they are remarkable pickups

Features :
Humbucking pickups with ceramic bar magnets. 4 conductors in a shielded wire with a bare wire to ground out the shielding, so coil splitting is an option (although not one I'm taking advantage of yet).

Resistance: Neck: 12.7 k Bridge: 16.6 k

Instrument :
I installed both the SH-6N and the SH-6B into a Korean-made Hamer Sunburst Archtop Flametop, which came with "Duncan Designed" HB103N and HB103B pickups.

Like many other reviewers, I was looking for increased output for distortion and sustain. After trying a Les Paul with ceramic pickups, I fell in love with the sound of a big, fat loud pickup in the bridge position, as well as the sound of two fairly evenly-matched pickups blended. I figured with ceramic pickups that

Also, I love the look of uncovered zebra pickups!

Sound : No Opinion
I'm playing through a Flextone III and nothing else.

Generally speaking, they work just as advertised - high output with good definition. Go to the SD website to get an idea of what they sound like.

Neck: Sometimes the bass can mud out the treble depending on amp settings. Round tone at higher registers with nice mids. Clean tones are possible if you turn the volume WAY DOWN, but it really shines with a little dirt on the mids, which is what I tend to go for in clean tones. Jazz Model it is not! With distortion, it is authoritative and has excellent definitions and overtones.

Bridge: Crisp and very well defined. Noticably brighter than the neck, but generally very similar. Squeals with hard picking at high volumes. Clean is surprisingly good because of the amount of treble and is quite twangy. Normal distortion is balanced and articulate, and on super-high distortion it is beast.

Harmonics are easy to hit on both (though the bridge, as always, is superior in picking them up). The sustain increase is noticeable even without feedback.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Overall, I'm very satisfied with them. I'm not going to go and put them on every guitar I ever buy, but it's a great tonal option.

I may look into installing a splitter and some more shielding at some point, but I don't want to go into that big of a project right now. I would probably recommend that mod to anyone looking to install these pickups, especially as a set, because they are rather dark. Overall, not for most people, but I love em!

Passive humbucker with ceramic magnets for SCREAMING output

Instrument :
I put SH-6's (Distortion Mayhem Set) in my Epi Les Paul Custom. Made a huge difference. The reason i changed it was just because i wanted something that wasnt generic.

Sound : No Opinion
Ceramic magnets, so theres good output. Not as hot as SH-8's though. I got these because they sound better on clean than the SH-8s do. I play a lot of different styles of rock. My influences/bands who's songs i cover inlude Black Sabbath, Hendrix, A7X, My Chemical Romance, Ozzy Osboune, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, and anyone who does shred stuff. I dont do super heavy over the top death metal type stuff like Korn and Slipknot and Lamb of God though. ALL of that said (Lol) i needed a pickup that could do a wide variety of clean, crunchy, and hi-gain tones. And this pickup is great for that. The only downside is that with a wide variety of tones in one pickup, none of them are absolutely great. But if you cant afford to have a bunch of guitars with pickups specially designed for specific tones, then this is a good solution.(although this pickup sounds xtra good for a nice Tony Iommi sound)

Overall Rating : 8
I like this pickup alot, and will use it again on other guitars. I just wish it could do every tone alot better, but nothing that can produce so many tones can possibly be perfect. Great for the money though(bought them in a set for $130) Get this pickup if you have a wide variety of tastes/styles.

TIGHT BASS,VOCAL MIDS AND SIZZLING HIGHS.......PERFECT! EXCEPTIONAL DEFINITION UNDER HEAVY DRIVE! I PLAY PUNKED UP CLASSIC ROCK AND BLUES WITH A 80'S METAL VIBE. NOT FOR WARM CLEAN JAZZ.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
I'D LIKE TO TRY AN SH-5 FOR A VINTAGEY VIBE, BUT I'LL ALWAYS OWN A SH-6
I'VE BEEN PLAYING OFF AND ON FOR 22 YEARS.IT IS THE BEST PICKUP TO DRIVE A JCM 800 INTO TIGHT CLEAR DISTORTION. IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, KISS, ETC. TRIED THE JB, NOT FOR ME (MUDDY/SCREECHY). MIGHT CONSIDER A SH-5, BECAUSE THIS THING LACKS THE DYNAMICS OF ALOWER OUTPUT HB AND SOMETIMES I GET ALL SENTIMENTAL ABOUT THIN LIZZY AND LED ZEPPLIN, . IT'S A ONE TRICK PONY, BUT IT HAS THE SOUND I CRAVE.

Features :
this is a humbucking pickup designed specifically for heavy styles of playing...hence the "distortion" part.

Instrument :
GUITAR: epiphone goth 1958 explorer
POSITION: bridge
REPLACING: stock epi humbucker
OTHER PICKUPS: stock epi humbucker in neck position
ARTISTS: unknown
REASON: the stock pickups just didnt fit my expectations and needs for sound. they hummed...(humbucking what?) and just got muddy and buzzy at higher levels when i put lots of distortion through them. not ideal for drop tunings=muddy and lots of feedback.

Sound : 9
OUTPUT: very high
APMPS/EFFECTS: i use a line 6 spider III 120w. i play metal mostly so i use lots of distortion and like to crank the mids to get a nice heavy, full, yet clear sound.
TONE: this pickup added a bit more mids to the tone. it has a very clear distortion sound with a lot of punch behind it. the highs sound really good, too. i like the balance of low and high that just make it sound...full. not thin and weak feeling like some other pickups.
STLYE: i play mostly metalcore styles. i also play in a youth band. this pickups fits both the heavy more brutal styles and the more rocky to clean styles. very clear on both distorted and clean. pretty good all around pickup (although ideal for heavier styles)
SUITABLE POS: this pickups is definetly best for the bridge position. a duncan distortion pack is available that includes the sh-6 for the bridge and something else for the neck that i cant remember.

Overall Rating : 9
if it was destroyed pr stolen i'd probobly replace it. i havnt really found anything else that i really like...so yeah, id get a new one of these.

ive been playing for 5 years. i have had 6 guitars. i sold one, broke one, and took one apart just because i was curious. so i really have 3. and ibanez, an eleca, and a 1958 explorer model (great guitar by the way. especially for the price)
i currently use the line 6 spider III 120w and its built in effects with a footswitch. i use monster cables.

i love the overall tone of the pickup. full, heavy, and clear. just what i need. i hated trying to install it and get it the right height.

i didnt really try too many other pickups. a friend of mine put the duncan distortion into his les paul and it sounded pretty good (definetly better than mine) so i got it. i think it suits the explorer better though. thincker tone. the only thing i really compared it too was the stock epi's, my ibanez ones, and various other guitars at my local music store. the sh-6 was the best in my opinion.

i wish it had...a lasergun attachment...just kiddin'. but really nothing i can think of now.

im very satisfied. i think im goin to stick with this pickup for a long time from now. id even buy more for future guitars i get.

great pickup. i highly recommend it if youre into more agressive playing styles and drop-tune. keeps tone and clarity well.

Features :
High output humbucker (passive)

EQ from Duncan "Tone Chart" is Bass:5, Mids:8, Treble:9

Instrument :
I installed this SH6b in the bridge position of my BC Rich NJ Bich (nato/mahogany body, bolt on maple neck). I've had a ton of pickups in the bridge position of this guitar, including a Duncan SH-4, DiMarzio Evoltion,Fred and Super II. This guitar has a naturally dark tone, I wanted to brighten it up and add some output.

I currently have a Duncan 59 in the neck position. The 59 and Duncan Distortion make a good combo.

Sound : 8
The SH6 is a hot pickup. I'm using it with a Crate 2x12 120watt combo and a BOSS SuperOverdrive pedal. The Tone is pretty balanced, with some extra high end. But it isn't thin sounding - it still has plenty of balls. I mostly play Speed Metal, Death Metal, Black Metal and NeoClassical. This pickup is great for fast metal rhythm because it has a very clear sound and crisp pick attack. Since I use my BC Rich for rhythm, it's just what I wanted. I find the tone to be a little too harsh for leads and solos, so I normally use my Jackson to play/record leads.

Overall Rating : 9
I would buy again. I acually had another SH6 years ago and I remembered liking it, so I tried it again. I'm happy I did.

While many other pickups get muddy with a lot of distortion, this pickup stays very crisp - which was exactly what I needed.

Bridge: 16.6 k Neck: 6.5 KHz
Bridge: 5.5 KHz

Instrument :
I had this pickup in an old dinky reverse jackson and replaced the di marzio evolution that came in it. The evolution looked to have been installed with a "solder gun" which unlike a soldering iron can damage the pickup due to voltages running threw it. The evolution was noisy and a little weak due to being damaged so I wanted to try the sh-6 whish is identical to the TB-6 by the way. At the time I got the sh-6 but really should hve gotten the TB-6 due to the wider string spacing on my schaller trem. Oh I had this pickup in the bridge position. I don't know what artists use it I just went by the sound clips on the website.

Sound : 10
The output is very high for sure but does not distort at all on the clean channel. It is very clear both distorted and clean. This pickup in my opinion destroys the dimebucker. The dimebucker has more bass and the mids are scooped. I like my mids, mids scream harder as in more harmonics. This pickup is very clear for chords as well as complex tech riffs. The palm mute tone it the best I've heard. I'm not going to lie I've tried a lot of pickups and this is my pickup. The only pickup that might be better is the Bare knuckles painkiller pickup. From what I can tell the pain killer is a very high quality version of this pickup but for close to 200 bucks I don't think I'm tring the pain killer any time soon. People say the JB this the JB that. I hate the duncan JB it just plain sucks. I don't know why jackson puts JB's in their guitars, it's just not a metal pickup.

Overall Rating : 10
Yeah I tried another pickup which I'll be taking out of my guitar next week and I'll be slapping in the TB-6. If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm done tring new pickups. The Duncan Distortion rules. Infact all alnico style pickups have a character I don't like Duncan makes other ceramic pickups, I've tried them all infact, the invader doesn't have enough highs and has too much bass and the duncan custom is a tad to weak for me. The dimebucker is a tad scooped although it's an ok pickup. I've also tried the metal live wire active pickup which is very good but the higher strings have a pushed in wah pedal tone which I don't like for bridge pickup soloing. If you want super clear metal tone go with this pickup. Think of old Metallica, and Megadeth, also, Jason Becker and Marty Friedman sweep picking on the bridge pickup. Hey the painkiller is close to 200 bucks these are way cheaper.

Instrument :
Guitar Used: Gibson Flying V
Pick-up Position: Bridge.
Replacing: 500T Bridge pick-up.
Artists: Sleep, High on Fire,
Reason for switch: My pick up died on me. What ever that means.

Sound : 10
Output: High out put.
Tone - Not heavy on bass. Good clear mids and well balanced treble (doesnt distort on the treble end. The mids distort but do not loose clarity.)
Music Style: Metal. Sound scape. The pick up is perfect.
Unsuitable for: Jazzy Jam Band crap.

Overall Rating : 10
It wouldnt get destroyed or stolen. I keep it in my subterainian layer that can only be opened by my magic crystal.

Played: 8-9 Years.
I play through a Marshall jcm 900 4x12 cab.
An Orange 2x12 with greenback speakers.
and Marshall Jcm 2000 double 100 watts.

I used a Memory Man Delay through the effects loop in conjunction with an Mxr kerry king equalizer. I also use an Marshall MetalMaster through the front end.

The pick up is good for Metal. Its certainly a lead pick up. It also works well on a crunch and allows for a lot of natural distortion which I find helpful in preservation of my amps tone.
